WHY Coaching?

We’ll cover the Why, Who, When, and What of Coaching

Have you ever felt out of your depth, stuck, wanting more or better? Effective coaching will help you take your life, career, or company to the next level.

WHY? The short answer is that “Everybody needs a coach!” It’s not just what we at CoachMe Vancouver are saying, this is quoted from Bill Gates.

You know, it’s incredibly empowering to find out that you had all the solutions already in you and just needed a brilliant coach to help you unlock your inner amazingness.

Emma-Louise Elsey Owner & CEO of The Coaching Tools Company says: “One of the most exciting things about coaching is the buzz you get, when you push out of your comfort zone, come up with a plan, and put it into action! Life takes on a whole new meaning as you re-create your life as you want it.”

So, WHO needs coaching and WHEN?

If you’re a leader, a student, a parent, or a professional. Maybe you’re an opportunity-creator, life-enthusiast, wellbeing-searcher, confidence-hunter, or all-in-one. If you’d like to take your life, career, or organization to the next level, you will benefit from coaching.

The International Coach Federation (ICF) has listed all of these reasons and more under their FAQ question on “What are some typical reasons someone might work with a coach” coachfederation.org/faqs

BUT, WHAT actually is coaching?

Well, it’s not mentoring, teaching, any sort of therapy, consulting, or training.

The ICF defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. Coaches honor the client as the expert in his or her life and work and believe every client is creative, resourceful and whole.”

Think about that for a moment! It’s a powerful statement to make and mindset to have, that you are considered the one-and-only expert about your own life. You are creative, resourceful, and whole.

It’s all inside you already. It’s up to your coach to connect you with your expertise, to tease that creativeness and resourcefulness out of you, to help you move you forward and thrive. It’s all possible. You are the expert of your life.

A life coach does for the rest of your life what a personal trainer does for your health and fitness.” - Elaine MacDonald

This is what you said about WHY coaching?

I’ve reached out to my network on Twitter and LinkedIn and asked them about the benefits of coaching. Here’s a selection of what you said:

“Coaching provides a safe zone for you to discuss and identify possible roadblocks to success and help devise ways around them. A Coach will always come with an open, non-judgmental mindset. They will help create a space to develop new options and together develop a way forward.” – Stefan Funk, Program Lead for Data-Driven Coaching and Head of Communications at SAP

“A credible and professional coach will help their clients unpick the challenges they are facing; allowing them to gain valuable insight into what behaviours, skills and attitudes are needed to enable them to move themselves forward.” – Charlotte Hopkins, Company Director at Kinbee

“Coaching allows you to dig deep and unscramble your mind. It enables you find answers, build confidence and grow as a person.” – Sarah Goodall, Founder of Tribal Impact

Mina Phaisaltantiwongs, Personal and Professional Development Coach, thinks that “Coaching is a powerful and creative experience.” It’s best to give coaching a try and “let the experience speak for itself.” According to her, “different elements of coaching showcase the depth, range, and limitless possibilities.”

So, are you ready to take your life, career or organization to the next level?

What resonates most with me is the idea of being the expert in my own life. Sometimes i feel as if I lack any expertise but it’s true-I do always know more about myself than anyone else could possibly know. I just might need someone to help me dig into that knowledge store. Thanks for inspiring me with that thought, Nadine!
