Why Do Patients Seek Stem Cell Treatments?

Why Do Patients Seek Stem Cell Treatments?

Why do patients seek stem cell treatments (SCTs)? Experts affiliated with the Center for Regenerative Medicine at Mayo Clinic authored the peer-reviewed analysis (see below) identifying patient expectations and their common sources of information. The source of the underlying data came from Mayo's Consult Service.

Thinking about the article, I ponder, who really owns (legally) the lexicon consisting of "stem cells"-"regenerative medicine"- "cell therapies" and "orthobiologics"? Is it the government, scientific societies, the medical societies, bioethicists, clinics or search engines? Has the term "stem cell" become like a commercial brand- to be fought over? Perhaps a generic term for "salvation medicine"?

Think about it. No wonder the public is so often confused.

Agree…the term has turned into marketing which means nothing….the vast types of stem cells and applications cannot be dumped into a single term….it’s like saying because insulin works great for diabetes ‘peptides’ can be used to treat everything….let’s just call them what they are….mesenchymal stem cells, pluripotent stem cells, hematopoietic stem cells….patients are not stupid, they will learn the differences quickly….they’re highly motivated learners if given the chance to understand.
