Why Do We Still Code Like It’s 2005?
If you are an engineer or an engineering student, we have a harsh truth to tell you. Every coding project you do in college, AI can do it in seconds. Don’t get us wrong; we’re not saying that everything you’ve learned is worthless. Instead, we’re here to tell you that there’s a way to make coding much easier and smarter with the help of AI.
Let me tell you a bit about how outdated we are and when AI took over the world of coding.
CODING CHANGED ITS VIBE BUT YOU DIDN'T
Until 2010, coding was highly sought after; people hired coders whenever they wanted to build an app or website. However, just a few years later, platforms like Bubble, Webflow, WordPress, and many new software solutions entered the scene, revolutionizing the coding landscape by introducing no-code and low-code software.
But you know what’s surprising? These platforms are a decade old, and now there are even more advanced tools that allow you to build apps, websites, or anything requiring coding within minutes. Yet, many people still aren’t leveraging these AI tools and software.
Let’s forget what’s already happened and focus on how and why you should leverage AI for coding to stay ahead of the curve.
AI CODING WILL MAKE YOU SMARTER, NOT LAZIER
People believe that using AI to code is simply being lazy, but that’s not the truth. Coding is a complex skill, and I’m not saying you shouldn’t learn it or that your degree is worthless. What I am saying is that you should adapt to the trend and not get left behind.
Let’s explore how AI has made coding easier and how different professions can leverage it.
Developers
Developers are typically working professionals or freelancers who use coding for various purposes, such as building apps, websites, games, and more. Instead of manually writing every line of code, you can use code development software like GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, and similar code-generating tools.
These tools can streamline the coding process by generating code for you. If you need to add something specific, you can easily do so after generating the initial code. This is a must-learn skill for all developers, as it saves both time and effort.
Startup/Small Business Owners
Startup and small business owners often lack the capital to hire developers to create websites for them. A few years ago, this was a significant barrier to scaling online. However, now platforms like WordPress, WIX, and Dorik allow you to generate a website using a simple prompt or drag-and-drop method.
So, if you’re a startup owner, you can leverage these platforms to scale your business online without spending thousands or even lakhs of rupees on developers.
Students
Students already have a lot on their plates, from college projects to lab sessions, leaving little time for additional work. AI can help save that time for other extracurriculars.
With AI, students can take on freelancing projects alongside their studies, potentially covering their own expenses. AI can also help students learn coding more effectively. If they don’t understand a topic during lab sessions, they can ask AI to explain it to them. And when those end-of-semester projects feel exhausting and monotonous, AI can lend a hand, making the process easier and faster. Don’t forget to leverage AI whenever you can.
CONCLUSION
So today we discussed how coding has changed a lot in the past few years, and how easy it is to code using AI, and how students and professionals can all use AI to scale their growth. Now, I am not saying that you should let AI do everything for you, of course you should code yourself but the next time you are coding, don’t forget to leverage AI to work more effectively and efficiently.
