Why I Believe Arterial Health Technologies Will Transform Heart Health

In the realm of cardiovascular care, the focus has long been on traditional markers—blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and heart rate. However, these measurements only scratch the surface of what is truly happening within the arteries, where early signs of cardiovascular issues begin. That’s why I’ve chosen to focus my work on advancing technologies that assess arterial health, particularly as we near the launch of CONNEQT Pulse.

The Hidden Story of Arterial Health

Arteries aren’t just passive blood vessels. They are dynamic, vital structures that respond to every aspect of our lifestyle—from stress and diet to physical activity. As we age, our arteries naturally stiffen, leading to increased cardiovascular risk. This concept, called arterial aging, is a better predictor of heart health than chronological age. By understanding the health of our arteries, we can get ahead of potential issues before they become life-threatening.

At Cardiex , we’re bringing to market cutting-edge tools that go beyond the basics of cardiovascular monitoring. These technologies allow us to look deeper into arterial function, identifying signs of risk that traditional methods may miss.

The Burdens of Heart Disease

Heart disease is not only the leading cause of death globally but also one of the most significant economic burdens on healthcare systems. In the U.S. alone, the direct costs associated with cardiovascular disease are projected to exceed $1 trillion annually by 2035. Beyond the healthcare costs, the toll of heart disease on quality of life is immense—leading to reduced productivity, higher disability rates, and diminished well-being for millions of people.

Focusing on arterial health offers an opportunity to address these challenges head-on. By identifying early signs of arterial stiffening or dysfunction, we can prevent more costly interventions down the line, such as surgeries or long-term medication use. The economic burden of heart disease could be mitigated by empowering individuals to take control of their cardiovascular health before symptoms escalate.

At the same time, improving arterial health can lead to a better quality of life. Early detection and management of arterial aging can help people maintain their mobility, energy levels, and overall well-being well into their later years—directly influencing not only lifespan but healthspan.

CONNEQT Pulse provides a comprehensive suite of arterial health metrics and analytics.

The Opportunity with CONNEQT Pulse

The CONNEQT Pulse is a device that represents a leap forward in arterial health assessment. While typical at-home devices measure brachial blood pressure (the pressure in your arm), the Pulse tracks central blood pressure—the pressure closer to your heart, which provides a more accurate picture of cardiovascular risk. Beyond central blood pressure, it measures critical arterial function metrics like augmentation index and subendocardial viability ratio. These parameters offer a much deeper understanding of how well your heart is performing and whether your arteries are functioning optimally.

As we approach the launch of CONNEQT Pulse, the excitement is palpable. This milestone represents the culmination of years of development, testing, and refinement. We are not just launching another health device—we’re opening doors to a future where arterial health becomes a standard part of daily monitoring, much like steps or calories burned. The ability to understand and track these critical metrics can lead to longer, healthier lives for millions.

With devices like CONNEQT Pulse, we have the opportunity to help people better understand their bodies, make informed decisions, and potentially delay or prevent serious heart conditions. By providing people with tools to monitor their arterial health regularly, we’re helping them manage their health more holistically and proactively.

A Paradigm Shift in Cardiovascular Monitoring

Focusing on arterial health isn’t just about creating a better blood pressure monitor. It’s about shifting the paradigm in how we approach cardiovascular care. This isn’t just for healthcare providers; it’s for individuals who want to take proactive steps in their health. The Pulse empowers users to monitor arterial health from the comfort of their home, giving them actionable insights that can influence their long-term well-being.

The timing couldn’t be more critical. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death globally, yet many people remain unaware of the early signs of arterial stiffening or central blood pressure changes, which are key indicators of cardiovascular risk. With the Pulse, we aim to bridge that gap, providing both individuals and healthcare providers with the tools to gain deeper insights into cardiovascular function.

By focusing my work on technologies like the CONNEQT Pulse, I’m excited to contribute to a future where arterial health insights are accessible to all, empowering individuals and healthcare providers to take control of heart health in a way that was previously unimaginable. This work also presents an opportunity to alleviate the long-term economic burden of cardiovascular disease by preventing complications early on, ultimately leading to better outcomes for individuals and society at large.

This is just the beginning, and I look forward to seeing how these innovations will redefine cardiovascular care for years to come.

Highlighting the need to shift focus from simplistic upper arm BP to include central BP and the other measures of the cardiovascular system cannot be over emphasized. Individuals have finite compensatory capacity and irreversible damage occurs when this is exceeded.

I think for myself and write notes about it.

“We can’t afford to break anything when it comes to people’s health.” A lot of wisdom in that Catherine Liao. Giving this a read while enjoying my second coffee of the day, because this topic and what you’re building are way too interesting to bookmark for later. (Can’t wait to see CONNEQT Pulse out in the world — keeping my eyes peeled)

I am excited to use the Pulse at home. Having central blood pressure anywhere anytime is technological and scientific progress.
