Why I’m Leaving My High 6-Figure Job to Solve the Biggest Blind Spot in Business Relationships
A Great Job With No Reason to Leave
For years, I followed the well-worn path of career success in Customer Success and Account Management. I climbed the ladder and led enterprise teams responsible for hundreds of millions in revenue. I consistently drove expansion and best-in-class renewal rates. I had stability. I had influence. I was earning an excellent, stable salary.
And yet, despite all that success, something wasn’t right.
Every quarter felt like the same uphill battle - frantically pulling together QBRs, chasing down scattered customer data, and struggling to prove value to customers and executives. Sales and CS constantly argued over who “owned” the customer. Forecasting was more art than science, and when customers churned, it felt like a gut punch, but one we always should see coming.
I kept asking myself: Why are we still managing customer relationships with anecdotal evidence and gut instincts?
A Problem Hiding in Plain Sight
It hit me during yet another QBR scramble from an Enterprise Customer Success Manager (ECSM) on my team - why was our team still relying on cobbled-together spreadsheets, survey scores, internal anecdotes, and one-off customer check-ins to gauge account health?
What if there was a way to objectively measure customer value without begging them for feedback? What if there was a way for customers to measure us back?!
The only way most teams do this currently is by oversurveying. Currently, it feels like customer teams are like an insecure partner asking, “Would you still love me even if I was a worm?”
So, I started sketching out a framework - a scaleable, objective way to co-own success metrics with customers, making QBRs obsolete by giving teams real-time visibility into value and adoption.
I shared the idea with a few industry leaders, and the response was overwhelming:
💬 “If this existed, we’d use it tomorrow.”
I knew I was onto something.
The Rational Fear of Jumping Without a Net
Walking away from a high-paying career at a publicly traded SaaS company isn’t easy.
I mean, I have a family to support. Three little girls. A mortgage. A life I had built over a decade of grinding.
There were doubts. What if this fails? What if I walk away from financial security and can’t get it back?
I told myself:
“Maybe I can build this solution as a side project.”
“Maybe someone else will solve this problem.”
“Maybe I just need more time.”
But deep down, I knew the truth: The only way to do this right was to go all in.
Leaving Stability for the Unknown
So, I quit.
I walked away from my salary, my safety net, and the comfort of knowing exactly what my next paycheck would look like.
I went all in on Steerco - a platform to build better business reviews - to eliminate all the prep work and, more honestly, the guesswork.
I grabbed a team together, and we started with three core principles:
Better, Faster, Stronger Business Reviews: give both customers and companies data they can trust so that they can always see where they stand - without a quarterly fire drill.
Real-time customer value insights: so go-to-market teams can stop guessing who’s at risk and who’s primed for expansion.
Standardized success metrics: so businesses can measure impact without relying on anecdotal feedback.
The Startup Rollercoaster
Building Steerco isn’t smooth sailing, and it is not glamorous. It’s messy, uncertain, and brutal.
I’ve have to figure out funding, product development, customer acquisition, and pricing - all from scratch. Some days, progress feels unstoppable. Other days, I feel like I’m staring at a brick wall.
But I found allies:
✅ Early customers who believed in the vision
✅ Advisors who had built successful SaaS companies
✅ A small but obsessed team willing to push through the chaos
And, of course, there are still doubters - people who question whether this was a real problem.
“Isn’t this just another CRM like Gainsight or Totango?”
“How much would customers pay for this?”
“Aren’t CFOs too skeptical of another tool?”
But here’s the thing: Steerco isn’t just another SaaS tool. It’s an accountability layer that bridges the gap between vendors, customers, and finance.
We’re feeling a ton of traction. We’re finally getting in front of the right people. The reaction is the same: “This should have existed years ago.”
Betting It All on the Market’s Reaction
But, as any founder will tell you, the true test of any startup isn’t just whether you can build a product - it’s whether the market actually wants what you’re building.
We pitch. We demo. We refine.
And the feedback is pouring in: “It seems so simple! How has no one done this yet?”
It’s becoming clear to people that Steerco solves three massive, overlooked problems:
📉 Eliminating QBR Chaos – Persistent, data-driven scorecards replace time-consuming, ineffective business reviews.
🚀 Shift to Value-Based Retention – Companies must prove ROI, making real-time customer impact tracking a must-have.
💡 Proactive Expansion & Renewal Strategies – CSMs and account managers get clear, real-time signals on when and how to grow accounts.
Steerco isn’t just helping customer teams survive in an economy that is now prioritizing growth AND profitability - it’s helping them win.
Scaling Steerco’s Impact
We’re on a mission to empower customer teams with the clarity they need to drive renewals, expansion, and customer advocacy—without the guesswork.
