Why Many Dynamics 365 ERP Implementations Fail Before They Even Begin
Every complex project must start with careful preparation. A D365 F&O implementation is no exception.

Why Many Dynamics 365 ERP Implementations Fail Before They Even Begin

While everybody is talking about the key phases of a Dynamics 365 implementation, such a how to do data migration, the importance of user training, and other assorted banalities, I'll tell you something different: many Dynamics 365 implementations fail before they even begin. How come?

Because a lot of organisations fail to do the groundwork. They fixate on tech while neglecting the importance of business goals and impact on business processes. They expect their implementation partner to do magic and miracles. They fail to take ownership and make decisions when it matters most.

In other words, they skip the prerequisites.

To break the chain, I wrote an article for execs, sponsors, and programme leads who don't want to make this mistake. I explain in detail the key points and early decisions that make or break an ERP implementation

Here's a preview:

Dynamics 365 isn't one product

It's a modular suite of apps that combine ERP, CRM, and low-code tools. If you don't understand how they fit together, you'll choose the wrong solution for your needs and end up overpaying for it.

Azure isn't just cloud hosting

Especially for companies that come from on-premise, it's a paradigm shift and a new operating model with different costs, responsibilities, and risks. Learn how to set it up correctly or find out the hard way with your first cloud bill.

Digital transformation is not a strategy

Modernising the business is cool and everything, but your compass can't just be "we're implementing Dynamics 365". You need specific business goals that drive system design, process decisions, and user adoption. Otherwise, you're just buying software and hoping things work out (they won't).

Your partner choice is critical, but it's not enough

Choosing the right Microsoft partner will make or break your ERP implementation. That's a given. But even the most perfect system integrator will be powerless against your poor internal readiness, vague objectives and scope, and lack of decision-making.

This is just a preview. The full article breaks down:

  • What Dynamics 365 really is (and how to choose it correctly)
  • How to prepare for the transition to Microsoft Azure and the cloud
  • Why you need to link your ERP vision with tangible business goals
  • How to assess your starting point with honesty
  • What to look for when choosing a Microsoft partner
  • What internal roles you need in place before kicking off

I like this: even the most perfect system integrator will be powerless against your poor internal readiness, vague objectives and scope, and lack of decision-making.
