Why My Upcoming Talk at NAC2025 Might Be the Most Important One This Year

Why My Upcoming Talk at NAC2025 Might Be the Most Important One This Year

Okay, here’s the truth.

Most conferences? You listen, you clap, you forget.

But this one? I’m coming to shake the room.

At the National Address Conference 2025, I’m not stepping onto the stage to repeat what’s already been said. I’m coming to ask the uncomfortable questions. To poke at the systems we trust a little too blindly. To make us all stop and think:

"Whose data is it, really?"

The Topic I’ll Be Speaking On:

“The Need for National Technology and Data Sovereignty”

Sounds serious? It is.

Because as Malaysia rolls out the National Addressing System (NAS), we’re on the edge of something powerful — and possibly dangerous if we’re not careful.

Imagine this: A system so precise it knows exactly where you live, how you move, what time you’re usually out, and what services you use.

Now ask yourself… Who controls that system? And who should?

The Dark Side of Precision

In my upcoming session, I’ll be unpacking what most don’t dare to talk about.

Yes, NAS can improve public services, drive e-commerce, and make governance smarter. But here’s the flip side I’ll explore:

  • Privacy Invasion – When Accurate GPS Data Becomes Public Knowledge.
  • Burglary & Safety Risks – What happens when criminals know your habits?
  • Commercial Exploitation – When Your Address Becomes Ad Gold.
  • IoT Cyberattacks – When your smart meter becomes a hacker’s backdoor.
  • Location-Based Discrimination – When postcodes define your worth.

It’s not paranoia. It’s already happening — just not loudly enough for us to panic.

Yet.

Sovereignty Isn’t Just for Politicians. It’s for All of Us.

In my talk, I’ll make a strong case for why data and technology sovereignty must be non-negotiable in Malaysia’s digital journey.

Because when we hand over our data to platforms we don’t control, we’re not just outsourcing tech — we’re outsourcing trust.

And trust, once broken, is hard to rebuild.

What I’ll Be Pushing For

You’ll hear me advocate for a different approach — one that puts people first:

  1. Role-Based Access Controls – Not every agency needs to see your exact location.
  2. Anonymization by Default – Blur where necessary. Reveal only with purpose.
  3. Consent-First Platforms – Data belongs to people, not databases.
  4. Built-in Encryption – Not optional. Mandatory.
  5. Audit Trails – So every data access leaves a trace.

It’s not enough to build a NAS. We need to build a responsible, secure, and sovereign NAS.

I’m Coming With Questions — Not Just Answers

Expect a session filled with practical insights, real scenarios, and bold provocations.

I’ll ask:

  • “Why are we still so dependent on foreign geospatial systems?”
  • “What happens if a foreign vendor pulls the plug?”
  • “Can we really call it national if we don’t own the tech stack?”

And I’ll propose how we can flip the script — how Malaysia can design, build, and govern its digital future.

🗓️ Save the Time — or Regret It Later

📍 National Address Conference 2025 📅 July 17, 2025 🕛 Talk Session 11 — Right before lunch (but I promise, you won’t be thinking about food) 📌 WTCKL, Kuala Lumpur

If you’re a policymaker, tech leader, city planner, or just someone who cares about where your country is heading, you need to be there.

🚀 This Is Bigger Than Me

This is about our national resilience. Our local industries. Our digital independence.

“You don’t build a smart nation by outsourcing your brain.”

You build it with sovereignty of technology, data, and purpose.

That’s the message I’m bringing. And I hope you’ll be in the room when I do.

Come early. Bring questions. Stay sharp.

Let’s not just talk about addresses. Let’s talk about who gets to control the map.
