Are you the Data Guru?

I’ve decided to try an experiment in the power of social media to help find the right person for a new, senior executive role at Westpac—one that doesn’t fit the traditional recruiting mold.

Westpac Group's vision is to be one of the world’s great service companies, helping our customers, communities, and people to prosper and grow. We are Australia’s oldest company, and its second largest bank, with a proud track record of innovation, sustainable business practices, and supporting diversity and inclusion.

Having just entered our third century of business, we recognise that our ability to harness and apply the insights from data across the company is critical to delivering great service, performance, and security for our customers and our people.

We already have great people, great data assets, and market-leading digital channels.

The person we’re looking for will take this to the next level—helping bridge the gap between customer and commercial needs. They will coordinate among our business, analysis, and technology teams to deliver real value, while charting a path to build our data assets and cutting-edge analytical tools into a genuine competitive advantage. They will constantly ask—and work with their teams to answer—questions like, “What is the data telling us?” and “How can we use our data to understand our customers better, improve our service and lift performance?”

At the same time, the right person will be a highly experienced executive, with a demonstrated ability to deliver projects that span business, analysis, and technology domains in a financial services context. They will have the maturity, empathy, and relationship building skills required to navigate a large company like ours, as well as the leadership skills to be a ’talent magnet’ for world-class data, analysis, and technology experts.

The job will be Sydney-based, and well paid—although our highly-engaged, “One Team” culture means that mercenaries need not apply.

If this sounds like you, I’d like to hear from you. Or, if this sounds like the kind of team you’d like to work in, we’d like to hear from you too.

If not, I’d be grateful if you could share this with your networks, and let’s see how small the world really is…

To be considered, send me an inmail or email us at dataguru@westpac.com.au

All responses will be kept confidential.

Hi Brian, I am quite interested with your new management approach. I hope the same filters down to the various divisions of Westpac especially the BT which seems to need your eye. I wrote you directly but instead you chose not to make a follow up if the issues were resolved. Sadly they are not.
