🌏 In Papua New Guinea, rapid industrialization is putting pressure on essential services and the environment. To help address this, IFC - International Finance Corporation is investing $10.2 million in TWM Group, PNG’s leading waste management company. This investment will support the country’s first integrated waste facility meeting international standards: ✅ Reducing unmanaged waste ✅ Protecting public health ✅ Strengthening economic resilience As PNG celebrates 50 years of independence and partnership with the World Bank Group, this project highlights how private sector solutions can drive sustainable development. TWM Group was also one of 18 companies participating in the Meri Save Trades (Women Know Trades) initiative in PNG, led by IFC and supported by the governments of Australia and New Zealand in partnership with the Business Coalition for Women. 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦: 17 new countries join Mission 300 and commit to detailed National Energy Compacts that define new energy upgrades and improvements to expand access to reliable and affordable electricity in Africa. The announcements were made at the Bloomberg Philanthropies 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺, bringing together heads of state and ministers, private sector leaders, and development partners. The new National Energy Compacts will drive electrification and power job creation across the continent. #Mozambique has made remarkable progress in bringing electricity to its people, becoming one of the fastest-electrifying countries in Africa. As one of the #Mission300 countries with highest access potential, it nearly doubled the rate of electricity access from 31 percent in 2018 to 60 percent by the end of 2024. Acumen’s Hardest-to-Reach (H2R) Initiative has mobilized a coalition of partners, including The Green Climate Fund, IFC - International Finance Corporation, British International Investment, Soros Economic Development Fund, Nordic Development Fund (NDF), and Shinhan Bank, to help solve energy poverty in sub-Saharan Africa’s least electrified markets. Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) are rapidly evolving into robust investment avenues in #India, offering investors regular income, capital appreciation, and a role in building the country’s #infrastructure growth story. With strong regulatory support, these instruments are expanding beyond traditional sectors like power and roads into #warehousing, #renewableenergy, and #batterystorage, deepening India’s capital markets in the process. At IFC, we are proud to have been an early partner in this journey and have helped establish REITs and INVITs as asset classes in India. I’m proud to share the next frontier in our efforts to mobilize private capital to create jobs and support development in emerging markets. We closed The World Bank Group’s debut $510 million transaction under our originate-to-distribute initiative. This marks the launch of IFC’s Emerging Markets Securitization Program (EMSP), a game-changing effort that creates a new asset class of MDB loans and unlocks private capital for emerging market borrowers who have historically lacked access to global investors. It also establishes a standardized, scalable approach for institutional investors—like asset managers, pension funds, and credit insurers—to confidently access emerging market opportunities.
