I live in Europe. I love it here. The quality of life is extraordinary. My kids grow up safe, the healthcare system works, and people value balance. But when it comes to building businesses? I go to America. Every time. Why? Because America was founded by risk-takers. The people who left Europe in the 1600s boarded fragile wooden ships, risking storms, disease, and starvation. They weren’t average. They were bold. Their descendants inherited that bias for boldness. You still see it today. Americans are often “embarrassing” to Europeans—talking to strangers, pitching anyone, being loud. But what looks like embarrassment is really fearlessness. Americans are more social, but less socialized. They care less about what others think. That translates directly into capital. Americans are terrible at saving, but great at investing. Europeans save diligently, but put money in property, bonds, or savings accounts. Americans invest—even if they fail more often, the wins fund the future. When I started raising money for Prelude Fertility, my opening line was: “Sex is great, but not to make babies.” Americans got it immediately. They saw that technology could make reproduction safer, healthier, and more reliable. They understood why a fertility chain could scale. Europeans, on the other hand, recoiled. Many felt reproduction was too sacred for technology. That single phrase captured the cultural divide: America embraces moonshots, Europe resists them. That’s why I build my fertility companies in the USA with great co founders: Prelude Fertility: the largest chain of fertility clinics in North America, now responsible for over 300,000 births. Overture Life: robotics and automation for embryology, turning the lab of the future into reality. Gameto: biotech that makes IVF shorter, safer, and more effective—using AI to mature eggs outside the body. Vitara: developing an artificial womb to save the lives of premature babies. These are moonshots. They need capital, patience, and a tolerance for failure. And America funds them. Europe does not. Europe protects the present. America bets on the future. I choose to live in Europe because it gives me peace. But I build in America because it gives me scale. I travel to the US a week every month. History shows: the future belongs to those who dare, in this case America.
