♦️Innovation thrives where different minds meet. We often talk about diversity in terms of appearances, but the real game-changer is diversity of thought. When we embrace unique ways of thinking, we unlock solutions we never imagined. I recently saw something that completely changed how I view workplace talent. 🤔Imagine this: A recruiter with Down syndrome leading an interview and asking questions that cut deeper than the usual scripted ones. He wasn’t just assessing skills—he was connecting dots others overlooked, proving that emotional intelligence and intuition are just as crucial as technical skills. 🧠 Why unconventional thinkers drive innovation: 1️⃣ Microsoft’s Neurodiversity Hiring Program: - What started as a small initiative is now a crucial talent pipeline. - Their neurodivergent employees have significantly enhanced cybersecurity, spotting vulnerabilities others missed. 2️⃣ The interview revelation: When this interviewer with Down syndrome took the lead, he didn’t rely on conventional tactics. - Instead of rehearsed questions, he identified hidden strengths in candidates that traditional methods would have overlooked. 3️⃣ Fast-track problem-solving: Research shows that cognitively diverse teams solve complex challenges 40% faster. - It’s not just about perspective—it’s about entirely different ways of thinking. Bonus: SAP's Autism at Work program reports that neurodivergent employees in specific roles outperform expectations by 140%. Their ability to focus and see patterns makes them irreplaceable in data-heavy jobs. 🚨 If you're still hiring based on "culture fit," you could be missing out on your most innovative employees. 💬 Have you ever seen someone break stereotypes and redefine excellence? TikTok, the unstoppable force behind viral music trends and catapulting artists into the spotlight, is now taking a giant leap into the world of music streaming with TikTok Music! 🚀🎵 As a Music Industry minor at the University of Southern California, it's a thrilling intersection of my academic studies and my love for digital culture. But it’s not just the music industry that should be intrigued - artists, creators, and anyone with an ear for trends should take note. Here’s why: 🔸Discoverability: With TikTok's powerful influence on music trends, TikTok Music will amplify the potential for artists to reach new audiences. It's not just about creating great music; it's about getting it heard! 🔸Community Building: TikTok Music will “help users listen, share, and download the music they have discovered on TikTok.” This opens a direct channel for artists to build and engage with their fanbase, facilitating a deeper connection through shared musical experiences. 🔸Monetization Opportunity: Their latest licensing deal with Warner Music Group hints at innovative ways artists might monetize their work beyond traditional models. By diversifying the ways in which music can be shared and enjoyed, artists have a new frontier for revenue streams. So, what does this mean for music artists looking to build their brand online? 1️⃣ Leverage TikTok for Exposure: Create engaging content around your music to capture the attention of TikTok’s vast user base. 2️⃣ Engage with Fans: Interact with your audience by responding to comments, participating in trends, and even hosting live sessions. Remember, it’s a two-way street! 3️⃣ Collaborate with Other Artists: Collaborations can help to expand your reach and can lead to fresh, exciting content for both parties’ fan bases. 4️⃣ Understand Your Audience: Use TikTok's analytics to understand what resonates with your listeners. Cater your content accordingly to keep them coming back for more. The convergence of music and social media platforms like TikTok is reshaping the landscape of the music industry. As we navigate this exciting new terrain, it’s essential to embrace these shifts and understand how they can be harnessed for success. I'm looking forward to turning up the volume, hitting play, and listening to what next to come! 🎧🚀 #creators #creatoreconomy #socialmedia

Throughout my career conversations, one question echoes consistently: "Should I pursue an individual contributor (IC) or management track in AI?" Contrary to traditional career narratives, AI demands a more sophisticated approach. Due to the technical depth of AI, the IC path isn't a dead end but an enriching journey of innovation and expertise. What's fascinating is how AI is reshaping career dynamics: even people managers must stay hands-on and technically sharp. Big tech (or even almost all tech companies) now recognize technical leadership as equally prestigious as management roles, with principal engineers and research scientists commanding the same respect and compensation as their people-managing counterparts, sometimes even more. The real magic happens when you're strategic about your growth. For IC professionals, this means continuously expanding your technical breadth and depth. Focus on becoming a technical thought leader, publish research/articles, contribute to open-source projects, speak at conferences, and develop cutting-edge solutions that push the boundaries of AI. For those drawn to management, the key is to develop not just people skills but a deep understanding of AI's strategic implementation. A successful AI manager is one who bridges technical complexity with business vision, creating an environment where innovation thrives and complex AI solutions are created. Your publications will shift from technical deep dives to thought leadership that demonstrates strategic prioritization and transformative potential. Ultimately, the most fulfilling path is the one that aligns with your intrinsic motivations. If you're energized by solving complex technical challenges, diving deep into machine learning models, and pushing the boundaries of what's possible, the IC track might be your calling. If you're passionate about amplifying human potential, mentoring talent, and driving large-scale AI initiatives, people management could be your sweet spot. There are no right or wrong decisions. The beauty of AI is its flexibility. Many professionals successfully navigate between these paths throughout their careers, bringing unique perspectives and a holistic understanding to each role they touch. #ExperienceFromTheField #WrittenByHuman #EditedByAI

One of my key employees, Moishe, once came to me and told me very earnestly that we needed to go out to market and find someone who was mathematically sophisticated and able to lead our engineering team, but still comfortable and convincing with customers. I told him I agreed with his profile, but that person was already with us. I gave him a hint: his name rhymed with “Shmoishe.” Outsiders who are famous aren’t as good as they and other market-watchers think they are. Sometimes you’ll need to go outside to find one, but more often than not the difference-makers who carry your company forward are hiding in plain sight – if you’re willing to recognize them, train and elevate them, and believe in their potential. We invest in active coaching, training, and mentorship for our employees still today, and the gains always outstrip the costs and time many times over. Invest in your homegrown unknowns, and commit to their growth through thick and thin.

🎵 Indian Music Industry at a Crossroads: Time to Retune Strategy 🎶 A timely article from The Economic Times sheds light on the structural shifts disrupting India’s music ecosystem. With the shutdown of platforms like Resso and Hungama, and the move of Gaana and others behind paywalls, the once-thriving ad-supported model is under serious strain. 📉 Large Music labels are witnessing stagnant or tapering revenues—a clear sign that the industry must evolve. Some of the key issues that is impacting adversely includes Shrinking revenue from ad-supported streaming, Over-reliance on platforms with unsustainable revenues, and lack of flexible monetization models for diverse user segments ! It is time for the industry to evaluate new ideas 💡 for a strategic way forward: * Revamp Monetization: Hybrid models combining freemium and micro-subscriptions could strike a better balance between user affordability and label revenue. * Artist-Led Engagement: Empower artists with more direct-to-fan platforms and monetization tools, fostering loyalty and recurring income. * Localized Innovation: Vernacular content and regional partnerships can tap into India’s diverse listening base, offering scale and stickiness. * Policy & Collaboration: Labels, platforms, and telecoms must align to ensure fair revenue share and sustainable business models. The Indian music industry is brimming with talent and potential. It’s time for all of the stakeholders to collaborate, innovate, and build resilient, inclusive ecosystems for the digital age. 🚀 The article may be seen here- https://lnkd.in/dQTRvdAW #MusicIndustry #Streaming #DigitalMedia #India #MusicBusiness #Innovation #ETInsights #LinkedInInsights

Far too often, I see leaders and companies move on from innovation, believing it's only necessary during the startup phase. In reality, it's what keeps companies alive and thriving. As companies grow, it's easy to fall into routine and let creativity fade. But innovation must continue-even as you scale. An older HBR article I came across this morning highlights how breakthroughs in management can create lasting advantages that are hard to replicate. Companies focused only on new products or efficiency often get quickly copied. To stay ahead, businesses must become "serial management innovators," always seeking new ways to transform how they operate. This idea remains as relevant now as it was back then. The benefits of sustained innovation are undeniable: •Competitive Edge •Increased Revenue •Customer Satisfaction •Attracting Talent •Organizational Growth and Employee Retention Embrace the innovation lifecycle-adapting creativity as your organization matures. Sustaining creativity means creating an environment where people feel safe to push boundaries. Encourage your teams to think big, take risks, and use the experience of your organization. Here are three strategies that I’ve seen work firsthand: Make Experimentation a Priority: Mistakes are part of the process—they help us learn, grow, and innovate. As leaders, share your own experiences with risk-taking, talk about what you've learned, and celebrate those who take bold steps, even when things don’t go as planned. It sends a powerful message: it's okay to take risks. Promote Intrapreneurship: Many of the best ideas come from those closest to the work. Encourage your people to think like entrepreneurs. Give them ownership, the tools they need, and the freedom to explore. Whether it’s through ‘innovation sprints’ or dedicated time for passion projects, showing your team that their creativity matters sustains momentum. Address big challenges, ask tough questions, and let your people feel empowered to tackle them head-on. Break Down Silos: True innovation happens when people connect across departments. Create opportunities for cross-functional interactions-through gatherings, open forums, or spontaneous connections. Diverse perspectives lead to game-changing solutions, and breaking down silos opens the door to that kind of synergy. Innovation doesn’t happen by accident. It requires dedication, a commitment to growth, and a willingness to challenge what’s always been done. To all the leaders out there: How are you ensuring your teams remain creative and engaged? What strategies have you found that create space for bold ideas within structured environments? —-- Harvard Business Review, "The Why, What, and How of Management Innovation" #Innovation #Leadership #ContinuousImprovement #Creativity #BusinessGrowth #Intrapreneurship #CrossFunctionalCollaboration #ImpactLab

It's been 1000 days since I last opened any candidate's resume... Here's why: - Most resumes (especially for developers) are ill-fitted with technologies they only "know" but don't practice. Too often, we see candidates listing skills they've barely touched, which doesn't help us gauge their true capabilities. - A big distraction: Most resumes are generic without any information value addition. They often lack the specifics that would make a candidate stand out or provide insight into their actual experience. - Lack of real-world application: Resumes rarely demonstrate how skills have been applied in real projects or how they've solved actual business problems. - Static and outdated: The fast pace of tech evolution means skills listed might already be outdated by the time we see them. - Over-saturation: With the volume of resumes, it's challenging to discern quality and fit without a more dynamic evaluation. What do I do instead? I ask candidates if they are open to a 1-week unpaid internship for assessment on a dummy project. If things click, we offer them a position. This approach: - Helps us assess the candidate's work ethic and skills in practice. - Creates an opportunity for candidates to learn more about the company's workload, allowing them to familiarize themselves before they commit to us. - Provides a mutual evaluation period - both for skill assessment and cultural fit. What do you think? How do you hire candidates? Let's discuss how we can innovate hiring practices to truly find the best fit for our teams. #HiringInnovation #TechRecruitment #TextifyAnalytics

How Netflix, HBO, and Prime Are Changing the Music Industry, for Real. BUT, Can a song featured in a film or series generate income? Yes, and sometimes more than once. But only if your rights are properly managed and metadata is solid. Here’s what it takes: A) You must own or control part of the rights B) Your work must include all key metadata (ISRC, IPI, etc.) C) You must have sync licenses and be registered with a PRO or CMO >>> What revenue streams are involved? 1. Sync fee – One-time negotiated payment with studios 2. Performance royalties – From public airing of the film/show 3. Mechanical royalties – If the content is downloaded or sold 4. Streaming royalties – If the film/series is watched online >>> But how do songs get into a film or series? There are three main paths: 1. Custom-made score or commissioned music A music supervisor sends a creative and technical brief. A composer writes to the scene’s emotion and timing. 2. Music libraries or indie catalogs Platforms like Artlist, Epidemic Sound or even indie distributors allow licensed tracks to be used directly — especially when metadata is solid. 3. Curated by music supervisors or editors These professionals hunt for that perfect emotional match. Keeping your data updated with PROs and distributors increases your chances. >>> Why this matters (and why now): - In today’s streaming world, sync is not just exposure — it’s business - According to Deloitte 2024, 82% of Gen Z discovers music through UGC and video platforms - Only 23% of people find new music through streaming recommendations - Spanish and Latin American series on Netflix and Prime are helping revive indie catalogs >>> Real-life examples: - Stranger Things sent “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush back to the charts — 37 years later. - Euphoria made alternative tracks mainstream overnight. - Latin and Spanish-language series from Netflix and Prime helped revive indie artist catalogs with global impact. **** Sync is not just visibility. It’s revenue. But to make it work, your author rights and technical setup must be flawless. > Ana Tijoux – “1977” - Her song was featured in Breaking Bad, boosting global streams and awareness. - Originally a niche Latin hip-hop track, it reached audiences worldwide thanks to perfect sync placement. - The exposure led to tour opportunities, playlist additions, and licensing deals — all from a single TV scene. >>> If you’re an artist, composer, or music manager — sync licensing might be your most overlooked revenue stream. Ask yourself: D) Is your music properly registered? E) Are you visible in sync-ready platforms and libraries? F) Do you treat your song like an audiovisual product? In today’s entertainment ecosystem, understanding sync = understanding strategy. Let’s talk about that. #musicsync # #artistdevelopment #audiovisualstrategy #musicformedia #digitaldistribution #songwritercommunity #musiccreators

Back from MusicBiz in #Atlanta—and it’s clear the music industry is in flux. The mood? Cautious, defensive, and deeply transitional. 🎵 #Web3 is gone from the conversation. So as #metaverse! 🧠 #AI has taken over. 🎟️ Ticketing giants like Ticketmaster/Live Nation Entertainment were the elephant in the room—conspicuously absent. So as the other secondary players such as SeatGeek, StubHub and Fever A few big takeaways: 🧠 AI is now front and center—seen as both a massive opportunity and an existential legal headache. It’s reshaping go-to-market strategies, creator tools, and monetization—but with intense debate about ownership, royalties, and ethics. Tools like mayk.it are being backed by serious players, and the next wave of disruption is already underway. Contrarian take: Don’t be surprised if AI becomes the #1 revenue stream for the music industry in a few years—just like streaming did in the 2000s. The infrastructure is forming, and the innovations are hard to ignore. 💰 Streaming continues to dominate, generating 70% of industry revenue. Growth is increasingly coming from emerging markets like Nigeria (exploding, but self-contained) and the MEA region (currently the #1 importer of French music). TikTok remains a critical top-of-funnel engine. 🕹️ #Gaming is the next great hope, but not yet a proven revenue stream. Platforms like Roblox and Fortnite are experimenting, but we’re still early. Think of it as where YouTube was before it monetized. 👀 Fan engagement is the Holy Grail. Fandom is now a strategic asset, unlocking brand deals, tour success, and monetization layers like merch. Superfans are driving disproportionate value—and discovery is happening more via Netflix, Twitch, and TikTok than anywhere else. 📉 Investment is slowing—but evolving. VCs are cautious. PE and corporate venture arms are stepping in. AI-led monetization and backend infrastructure are now the hottest startup spaces. “Boring is back” in a good way: optimization is the name of the game. And finally, there’s no single narrative about where the industry goes from here. That’s the point. 📌 Music is becoming a tech product, a financial asset, and a cultural platform all at once. The challenge? Building for creators, consumers, and capital—without losing the soul of the art. Huge thanks to Dmitri Vietze at Rock Paper Scissors, Inc. and Sun Jen Yung at Nfluence Partners for all the intros, insights, and connections—and to Alexandre Turbide B. Eng. MBA at BeatConnect for being a top-tier wingman throughout the conference. Also—let’s not forget: Suno might be persona non grata today, but don’t be shocked if they’re the title sponsor of this conference in five years. Sounds familiar? So did Spotify. Lots to unpack. Lots to build. #MusicBiz #MusicIndustry #startups #VC #Media #Innovation
