You may be so fed up with your job that you’re ready to take a hike, but BEFORE you quit, consider the following... Many of the job seeking clients I partner with struggle to recall the skills, certifications, training, and accolades they earned on the job. Without this information, your resume may end up appearing a little skimpy to recruiters, particularly in comparison to your peers who may have done a better job keeping track of their achievements. If you collect the following documentation before you quit, it will be much easier for you (or your resume writer) to develop an achievement-rich resume and interview stories that will position you for a successful job search. So, before you give notice, compile these mission-critical materials to help you stand out in a crowded market. You’ll thank me later! 💫 Performance Reviews – Make sure you download the last 2-3 years of your performance reviews before you give your notice. Performance reviews can often provide insight into your accomplishments, project results, and strengths, which can be highlighted on your resume. 💫 Your Current Job Description – Visit the careers page on your employer’s website or internal system for the formal job description or posting for your current and previous position(s). This will help lay the foundation for your resume as it will outline many of the responsibilities, skills, and qualifications you have used in the role. 💫 Work Samples or Portfolio – Depending on your industry and function or role, you may want to save work samples, kudos emails, or a portfolio that showcase your projects, designs, presentations, writing samples, or other relevant work that align to the type of position you aim to secure next. (You may have to eliminate information from these materials if it is considered proprietary or intellectual property belonging to your employer) 💫 Training Certificates – Download documentation of training courses, workshops, or certifications you engaged in during your employment to demonstrate professional development and any additional skills you acquired on the job. 💫 Achievement Records – Save any records of awards, commendations, peer nominations, or recognition received for exceptional performance, contributions, or achievements during your tenure. 💫 Performance Metrics – Document your performance metrics such as sales figures, project completion rates, customer satisfaction scores, or other measurable outcomes that demonstrate success in your role(s). Numbers jump out on a resume; don’t miss an opportunity to grab a recruiter’s attention! If you’re getting ready to launch a job search or are struggling to develop a resume that packs a punch, schedule time on my calendar to have an informal conversation to talk about your aims and how I help clients achieve similar goals: https://lnkd.in/e4xZeZux #resumewriting #jobsearch #careeradvice #careeradvancement

Summary
Additional documents for job applications refer to materials beyond your resume and cover letter, such as work samples, performance reviews, or official forms, which can strengthen your candidacy and meet specific employer requirements. These documents help showcase your achievements, skills, and experience and may be requested depending on the job or industry.
- Gather achievement records: Collect certificates, awards, and performance reviews before leaving a job to document your accomplishments and make future applications easier.
- Check posting requirements: Carefully read each job posting for additional required documents, such as statements of qualifications or work portfolios, and make sure you include them in your application.
- Showcase relevant work: Attach examples of your projects, articles, or recommendations to highlight your expertise and give employers a clear sense of your skills.

📣 Having trouble landing a state job? ❗ Here are five main things I notice applicants are doing wrong when applying to state jobs: 1. Unaware of "Minimum Qualifications" for job classification ➡️ Did you know that every state job will have specific education and/or work experience requirements that all candidates need to meet to be eligible? Many people are applying to jobs without realizing these requirements. The "Minimum Qualifications/Minimum Requirements" will always be linked on the CalCareers job posting and there are usually a few patterns candidates can qualify with (private sector experience, state experience, or both). Make sure to check the MQs to ensure you are qualified to apply. 2. Missing Documents from the "Required Application Package Documents" section ➡️ There is a "Required Application Package Documents" section on every CalCareers job posting that notes all of the required documents for the specific job opportunity. Applicants must submit all of the required documents to be considered. It is extremely important to pay attention to the directions (i.e. page length, font, etc.), applicants must follow the directions to be considered. 3. Submitting incorrect "Statement of Qualifications" ➡️ Not all state job postings will require this exercise, but when an SOQ is required, there will be specific directions *and* question prompts listed on the job posting that candidates will need to respond to. Many applicants will submit a cover letter or resume in place of this document and unfortunately that is an automatic disqualification from the recruitment process. Keep an eye out for SOQs in the job posting and make sure you read the directions! https://lnkd.in/gWby9Pu3 4. State application (STD 678 form) does not have enough information ➡️ Did you know the state application (STD 678 form) is the main document managers are screening and scoring to determine who they will interview? We as recruiters see many blank applications, applications that are poorly filled out, or applications that say, "see resume." You will want to ensure you have a thoroughly filled out application with relevant information to be considered by the hiring manager. Blank apps + no information to score= NO interview! 5. Aligning state application package with job posting ➡️ As state recruiters we suggest updating your state application every time you apply to a new job opportunity. Create a solid application template in your CalCareer account and take a few minutes to update your application based on the job you are applying to. You can review the "Duty Statement" and the "Desirable Qualifications" that can both be found on the job posting and align your application materials to show you are the best candidate for the position. ✅ Questions? Feel free to drop them in the comments!

Today is Day 18 of my "Get a job offer in 90 days (without networking)" journey, and I'm excited to share some updates 🎉 In the past week, I received 3 interview requests and had 1informational interview with a recruiter that was during July 4th week and it's been less than 3 weeks since starting! Now, let's talk about the main documents of my job search: my resume and cover letter. Are they enough to make you stand out from the competition? 🤔 The answer is both yes and no A good resume and cover letter are important, but there are additional ways to catch the attention of potential employers especially if you are transitioning careers or starting a new career path One effective strategy is to showcase examples of your work 📁 Whenever possible, especially when reaching out directly to decision-makers, include 1-2 examples of your relevant accomplishments (while maintaining confidentiality). 💡 This could be a recent project you worked on 💡 an article featuring your industry expertise 💡 or recommendations from past colleagues and employers 💡 a video cover letter - Jessica Fleisher used this recently! In the past week, I sent hiring managers these exact examples While a strong resume alone can still land you interviews, these additional materials can make you stand out and leave a lasting impression. Today, I dedicated my *1 hour* to creating a new project case study using Canva. I will be using it as a link in emails to employers and it will highlight my expertise in what they want the ideal candidate to achieve Don't be afraid to think outside the box and leverage various platforms to showcase your work and accomplishments. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue this 90-day journey. Together, let's conquer the job search process and achieve our career goals! #JobSearchUpdates #CareerJourney #StandOutFromTheCrowd
