The aim of the PhD project is to improve current strategy on blood cancer management using Select Ion Flow Tube Mass Spectrometry (SIFT-MS) and Vibrational Spectroscopy (FTIR). Improvements can be developed through the identification of headspace volatiles produced by cancerous cell cultures versus their normal cell counterparts, measured by the SIFT-MS. This could pre-empt early detection of blood cancer through breath analysis. I am also working with Synchrotron Fourier Transform Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy, which could help in validating cancerous tissue...
