  • Emerging Technical Leadership Program - That’s a wrap! 🎬 Last year 11 up-and-coming leaders were selected from across the Alluvium Group to take part in the Emerging Technical Leadership Program. Over the past year, this group have honed their leadership and technical skills through in-person workshops, one-on-one mentoring, personal reflection, and applied practice. They have now graduated as official card-carrying thought leaders! This initiative is part of our rolling 3-year program of group-wide development opportunities, alongside our Study Tour and the Alluvium Conference. We have focused the program specifically on technical leadership, aligned with our emphasis on technical excellence through our Research Program. 🧠 Tackling the Wicked Problems Over the past year, each participant has developed and led an individual project aimed at addressing a “big, wicked” challenge in our industry. Last week, each participant presented to the Alluvium Group on their project outcomes and next steps. It was inspiring to see the breadth and depth of ideas for how we can address challenges and lead positive change. We also held a brief Q&A where participants reflected on some of their learnings and takeaways from the past year. Some of the key insights were: -         Focus on big picture outcomes, not just outputs -         Back yourself. Have confidence in the breadth and depth of your personal skillset -         Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback from peers and mentors -         Technical leadership is not a solo endeavour. Build a network of people you can tap for support -         Solving big problems doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, effort, and collaboration. Learn to embrace the chaos. The personal growth shown by each of the participants in this program is truly inspiring. Though this round of the program is officially wrapped, their leadership journey is only just beginning. We are excited to see the growth of our future leaders within Alluvium and their lasting impact within their fields. 🥳 Congratulations to our graduates: Alex Sims, Amar Doshi, Emma Hodson, Felix Egger, Ha Nguyen, Harry Virahsawmy, Jake Allen, Katie Ryan, Michael Thomson, Prawi Woods, Shivani . . Special thanks to Amanda Shipp , Peter Morison, Jan Orton, and Matt Francey for steering the program, and a big thank you to Anthony Boxshall from Science Into Action for facilitating and helming the (leader)ship while building it! #scienceimpact #leadership #thoughtleaders #technicalleadership

Alluvium Group supporting ecosystem management planning in Fiji We’re proud to have supported Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and the Fiji Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in the development of its Integrated Ecosystem Management Plan (IEMP) for the Navua catchment and Beqa lagoon. Experts across the Alluvium Group collaborated with local partners to design the plan. As noted by the Director for Environment, communities were at the heart of this process, with in-country workshops and engagement activities to shape strategies to address environmental threats, enhance ecosystem resilience, support sustainable livelihoods, and promote inclusive climate adaptation. We look forward to seeing the positive impact from this plan for the environment and communities of the region. The Director commended the plan, stating, “I am pleased to see that communities are at the heart of the IEMP process—not only as stakeholders but as co-designers and custodians. Nature Financing The Alluvium Foundation would like to invite you to an online event to future explore nature financing. Protecting and improving biodiversity is not just a job for governments. The COP15 biodiversity targets rely on the private sector both reducing harm, and funding recovery.  Carbon markets are rapidly maturing, but private investment in nature and biodiversity is still emerging. This topic is very important to anybody that is interested in the environment, but it is also a world that many of us are not familiar with – a world of banking, loans, and return on investment. As part of a series of events and tasks on this topic, the Alluvium Foundation engaged the University of Queensland to investigate some of the barriers to nature finance. This webinar serves to release that report, but also to gather some leaders in the nature finance space to introduce our environmental community to the realities and potential of nature finance.    Program A/Prof Jacquelyn Humphrey (Uni of Qld, School of Business) What is nature finance? Introducing the UQ report Dr Lucas Dixon (Uni of Qld, School of Business) Nature finance: flows, barriers, and opportunities Dr Sasha Courville (Natural Capital & Climate) Nature finance at work: Recent examples Simon O’Connor (Bank Australia) The big picture: providing some context for where nature finance fits Register for the event here. https://lnkd.in/g73UcP_X Previous webinars can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gMXfrrHH https://lnkd.in/gMq2ZKEu # naturefinancing

Alluvium is proud to support the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) in Cambodia in delivering a national workshop to gather feedback on the Cambodia Climate Resilience Water Governance Programme, funded by Australian Water Partnership, which was joined by H.E Thor Chetha, Minister for Water Resources and Meteorology and H.E Derek Yip, the Australian Ambassador to Cambodia.   This workshop brought together key stakeholders from across government, civil society, and development partners to provide feedback to the Programme, supported by local Cambodian experts and Alluvium’s Simon Tilleard, Ella G. and Vanh Mixap, to shape a more inclusive, climate-resilient, and equitable water governance framework for Cambodia.   The outcomes of the workshop will help inform the development of enabling mechanisms that seek to modernise and enforce Cambodia’s Water Law, strengthen coordination across national and sub-national levels, embed Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) and climate resilience into water governance and promote equitable access to water for all communities.

  • Wimbo Park just won an NSW AILA Award of Excellence - Parks and Open Space! Congratulations Georgie Kimlin from Sue Barnsley Design for leading this gorgeous design project.   Alluvium collaborated with Sue Barnsley Design to design the Wimbo Park upgrade for the City of Sydney. Alluvium were the drainage and bioretention basin designers. The project faced several challenges, including elevated tailwater levels during frequent flood events, heritage restrictions, contamination issues, and its proximity to the Sydney Light Rail. Alluvium prepared both the concept and detailed designs, and provided construction support leading up to the commissioning of the works in early 2024. We’re thrilled to see it recognised. Get down to Surry Hills to check out this little beauty.
