About us

OMGEVING is a design office with over 85 experienced and dedicated spatial planners, landscape architects, urban planners, engineers, architects, environmental experts, and just as many personalities who make up our two fields of activity – Landscape architecture and Urbanism. The clear but dynamic structure provides an overview of the wide range of large and small-scale projects that this independent and multidisciplinary design company with offices in Antwerp, Brussels and Ghent takes on. In every urban or landscape project that it is a part of, OMGEVING not only seeks out the spatial but also the societal value it can add. OMGEVING lets this commitment filter through into its research, design, and its construction work. The design company sustains the human scale of its projects through the principle of cooperative collaboration. Collectivity – in both substantive and process-oriented terms – is a key concept for OMGEVING. Teams that have been carefully composed for each project create a network of strategic alliances, through which disciplines and areas of activity are drawn together according to requirements, both internally and from external parties.

Cycling trip: sustainable cycling infrastructure around Brussels   During a cycling trip, OMGEVING, together with client De Werkvennootschap, team partners, and many other stakeholders, explored the new sustainable cycling infrastructure around Brussels.   The completed cycle highways, tunnels, and bridges support the modal shift in the context of the works on the Brussels Ring, and many challenging projects are still ahead. To be continued.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. • Redevelopment of Wilgenstraat in Antwerp Approved The preliminary design for the redevelopment of Wilgenstraat and the surrounding public space (3.5 hectares) has been approved. The project includes the phased demolition of existing buildings and the construction of 318 new, sustainable social housing units. At the same time, the public space will be completely redesigned with a strong focus on quality of life, climate resilience, and social cohesion. At the heart of the new layout is a car-free public space designed to encourage social interaction, play, and relaxation. The plan emphasizes green infrastructure, with a climate-resilient park serving as the neighborhood’s green core. Sustainable water management is a key element, incorporating rainwater collection, infiltration zones, and native planting to promote biodiversity and support ecological balance. The connections between residential blocks will be improved through safe, comfortable pedestrian and cycling routes, enhancing overall mobility and accessibility. In addition, the existing school and daycare facilities will be expanded. Client: AG Vespa #antwerpen #antwerp #publicspace

Reality Check: Opening of the Ringpark West Bicycle Bridge, Antwerp With the opening of the bicycle bridge on July 1st by project developer Lantis and Minister of Mobility and Public Works Annick De Ridder, an important milestone has been reached in the realization of Ringpark West. Since 2018, Team West, consisting of OMGEVING, De Urbanisten, and Ney & Partners, has been responsible for the vision and design of this 700-hectare liveability project on the left bank of the River Scheldt. Team West provides solutions to highway noise pollution, proposes measures to support a more sustainable modal split, and focuses on reconnecting fragmented green spaces. The new bicycle bridge, together with the ecoduct next to Vlietbos, forms a crucial link in the network of cycling and ecological connections. The architectural and technical design of the bridge structure was developed by Sweco and ZJA I Architects & Engineers, in close collaboration with client Lantis, Stad Antwerpen, and the Ringpark designers of Team West. Splish splash – Cities are making waves! This week, over 200 representatives from more than 20 countries took to the water in the Gemeente Rotterdam to celebrate the Right to Swim and Nature Rights, as part of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The Swimmable Cities Congress brought together designers, activists, policymakers, and scientists to exchange ideas and dive into action. As landscape architects, urban designers and engineers, we have a key role to play in developing swimmable infrastructure in our cities. From natural ponds to canal pools and filtered river baths, solutions exist and can be tailored to every urban context. Also in the context of climate change, with increasing heat stress such as the current heatwave in Europe, urban swimming waters can help cool down citizens. OMGEVING as a signatory charter was proud to join the Belgian delegation alongside POOL IS COOL, Outdoor Swimming Belgium, Filter Café Filtré Atelier, landschaap and others. It was inspiring to share updates on our projects: from the swimming pond of Neerpede in Brussels to new opportunities at the MAS Antwerp and beyond. Because outdoor swimming is not a luxury, it’s a right. • The OMGEVING test garden is buzzing with life!   As the orchards swell with ripening fruit, bees and butterflies drift through summer blooms, and roe deer nibble on tender shoots. Our devoted volunteers tend the wild with quiet care, gently guiding nature’s rhythm, a true summer symphony in motion!   The OMGEVING test garden is a place where we get our hands in the soil to experiment with innovative planting concepts and management strategies. Here, we build practical knowledge and gain hands-on experience that we can apply in our projects.
