Acquires Poplar Hill Generating Plant ⚡ Dynasty Power Generation Inc. is thrilled to announce the acquisition of the Poplar Hill Generating Plant—a fast-start, natural gas–fired facility located northwest of Grande Prairie, Alberta. This bold step marks the company’s entry into physical generation, building on its success in trading and optimization. The Poplar Hill Generating Plant is a 48 MW simple-cycle peaking facility powered by a GE LM6000 gas turbine—one of the most proven aeroderivative models in the world. As a quick-start power plant, it can ramp to full load in under 10 minutes, providing critical energy when Albertans need power most. The turbine features Dry Low NOₓ (DLN) combustors to reduce emissions without water or steam, while advanced controls and real-time monitoring drive performance and compliance. The plant plays a vital role in stabilizing the transmission system, particularly in Alberta’s northwest. Its ability to provide both real and reactive power during peak demand supports grid reliability, voltage stability, and overall system strength. Operating 25–35% of the time, the Poplar Hill Generating Plant activates during high-demand events and has more than half of its operating life remaining. It’s well-positioned to deliver reliable, responsive energy for many years to come. As the first power plant in the Dynasty Power Generation Inc. portfolio, this is a major milestone.
