At Obsidian Engineering, we’re lucky to have designers who bring both technical precision and strong collaboration to our projects, and William Chan exemplifies this balance perfectly. 🤝 William doesn't just draft - he elevates every project he touches. On Shell pipeline projects, the feedback has been consistently outstanding, our design reviews run smoother than ever, and our junior engineers are developing faster under his mentorship. While managing design specs and coordinating reviews, he's simultaneously training the next generation of engineers and putting in the hours to ensure we never miss a deadline. That’s why one of our project engineers, Logan Johnson, presented William with our OE Award, our MVP award given for outstanding effort and impact. The result? Clients who feel heard, designs that work, and a team that grows stronger every day. Congrats William! 👏 #EngineeringDesign #EmployeeAppreciation #ObsidianENG

Team Obsidian is back on the bike seat for the Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer! 🚴♀️🚴 Since Obsidian Engineering’s founding, giving back to the community has been an essential part of our culture. This Saturday, we'll join 1700+ riders as we set off in Alberta’s biggest cycling #fundraiser, raising funds to improve cancer outcomes for Canadians by enabling research, advocacy and support programs. While the ride will certainly be a physical challenge, we know it will be incredibly rewarding to work together for this great cause. We're so grateful to everyone who has already donated - your support means the world as we embark on this ride. There's still time to give if you're able (See link below)! Help us create a future where no Canadian fears #cancer. 💪 A special thanks to our amazing sponsors this year! Medallion Energy Services Inc. Global Controls Inc. Becoming a licensed #ProfessionalEngineer is no easy feat. It requires passing difficult exams, gathering references, logging thousands of supervised work hours, and demonstrating strong engineering judgement. ✍️ But for those who make it through, the rewards are great. More responsibility, more accountability, greater impact, the ability to learn and teach at the same time, and the prestige of the P.Eng. designation after your name. Obsidian’s very own Justin Suddaby recently earned his P.Eng. license, and we couldn't be more proud! 🙌 In his time with us, Justin has demonstrated deep technical skills and has worked on complex projects that solve real-world problems for our clients. His commitment reflects so well on the caliber of talent we have here. Please join us in congratulating Justin on achieving his P.Eng. designation! Feel free to share any stories or advice for him as he embarks on this next chapter. 🎉

Seems like rain is just a part of the schedule! 🏌️ Obsidian Engineering is again a proud sponsor for the Canadian Women in Energy - Calgary Chapter’s annual golf tournament in support this year's charity of choice, Made by Momma, a grassroots for-impact organization focused on giving mothers and caregivers the time they need to rest, recover, and focus on their families and their health. This golf tournament is wildly popular and in its 23rd year, reminding us that together, we can uplift all members of our industry. It takes dedicated, passionate people to make events like this a success. A huge thank you to our staff, fellow sponsors, CWiE's organizers, and the golfers. Our community is stronger when we show up and support each other. We're already looking forward to giving out more pickles next year! 😄⛳

Four years of steady progress, technical challenges, and stepping up when it counted. And now, Zack Wilson, P.Eng. Wilson is officially a #ProfessionalEngineer! 🛠️🎉 Zack is currently working as a Project Engineer on the Cenovus MOC Program, where he’s known for his strong work ethic, team-first mindset, and willingness to jump in wherever he’s needed. Earning his P.Eng. is a well-deserved milestone that reflects the effort, growth, and accountability he’s shown throughout his career. He’s also one of the driving forces behind our Floor Wars program, our favourite inter-floor competition to keep things fun and connected around the office! Congrats, Zack! We’re lucky to have you on the team. 👏 If you’ve worked with Zack, drop a comment with your favourite story or what stands out most about him. We know there are plenty! As part of our #Renewables team, Brock Wiebe E.I.T has tackled some of the most unusual, first-of-their-kind projects we've taken on as a company. From odd hours to challenging calculations, and even the occasional “why does no vendor make the thing we need?” moment, Brock has approached every hurdle with creativity, perseverance, and true team spirit. 💪 That’s why we’re thrilled to celebrate Brock as the recipient of Obsidian Engineering’s #OEAward, our MVP award for outstanding contributions. Brock’s technical know-how, friendly energy, and “can-do” attitude embody what it means to be an Obsidian engineer. He’s also an avid biker, passionate sports fan, and just a genuinely great guy to work with. Way to go, Brock, well earned! 🏆👏

🚀 Imagine being fresh out of school: An engineer, full of potential, taking a leap of faith on a small but scrappy company still finding its footing. Everyone’s wearing multiple hats, doing whatever it takes to get things off the ground. For Tahmid Kazi, P. Eng., that meant jumping into IT support between electrical tasks, fixing tech issues one moment and tackling engineering challenges the next. Fast forward five years, and the hard work has paid off. Tahmid has grown alongside Obsidian Engineering, earning his P.Eng. designation, leading our junior socials and Calgary Corporate Challenge efforts, and mentoring and guiding the next generation of engineers. As Obsidian has grown into an industry leader, Tahmid has been right there helping to shape its foundation. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but with people like Tahmid (and the many long-standing team members who’ve stuck it out through the early days), we’ve built something truly special. Happy #WorkAnniversary, Tahmid! Cheers to five years and here’s to many more! 🙌
