A remarkable milestone for the GALLERIA DI BASE DEL BRENNERO - BRENNER BASISTUNNEL BBT SE! After an impressive journey of 8.4 km, the TBM Ida has successfully reached its target. Along the way, she conquered challenging geological fault zones such as the Viggartal, the Walzn and the Werner. Since her launch on 27 June 2023, Ida has not only advanced the main tunnel but also installed an outstanding 29,381 segments. This achievement is yet another important step toward shaping the future of sustainable mobility in Europe. #arx #smartminds #joinus

Resilient infrastructures – technically, economically, socially – are those conceived with a clear sustainable vision from the outset. Every technical choice is thus also an environmental and strategic decision. Bridges, rail networks, water treatment systems, and energy grids can be designed to minimize environmental impact while simultaneously enhancing energy access, interconnecting communities, and generating long-term shared value. Let’s consider, for instance, hydroelectric plants in the Alps, which generate renewable energy while respecting the landscape and protecting fragile mountain ecosystems. Similarly, the longstanding tradition of Scandinavian green architecture demonstrates how energy efficiency, the use of locally sourced materials, and thermal comfort can be successfully integrated in some of the world’s most challenging climatic conditions. These examples illustrate how infrastructure, when thoughtfully designed, can evolve beyond its conventional role as a passive conduit for flows to become an active catalyst for sustainable development. Technical innovation plays a pivotal role in this process. Low-carbon materials, digital modelling, parametric design, life cycle predictive analysis: engineering today has powerful tools to anticipate impacts and optimize resources use. Yet innovation also means knowing how to adapt – not impose – solutions. For sustainability to be effective, it must be aligned with context. For example, a dam in Africa does not face the same challenges as an urban cycling network in Northern Europe. One confronts issues such as limited resources, extreme climatic conditions, and essential infrastructure needs. In contrast, an urban cycling network in Northern Europe is focused on enhancing efficiency, reducing emissions, and regenerating public spaces. A one-sizefits all approach simply won’t work: we need a local perspective fit in a more global vision. What makes this possible isn’t just technique, but also how we collaborate. New, more integrated and transparent contractual models, like the Allianzverträge in Austria, in which we are actively involved, allow all players – designers, project managers, contractors, clients – to share objectives, risks, and outcomes. This creates the conditions for a shared project focus, significantly enhancing its sustainability potential. In a time of clear environmental urgency, infrastructural innovation can no longer be separated from environmental and social quality. We design to endure – and that means we design to coexist. Sustainability is the material from which we build our bridge to the future. Even if we can’t see it, we can feel it. Congratulations to Ben Rivers on winning the Pardo Verde at the 78th Locarno Film Festival with Mare’s Nest! This UK–France–Canada co-production is a poetic, dreamlike journey set in a world inhabited only by children, where memory, language and imagination intertwine to reflect on human fragility and alternative ways of living. We are proud to have supported the Festival as Impact Partner. This reflects our commitment to sustainability not only in our daily work, but also in the cultural sphere, where cinema proves to be a powerful channel to convey such important messages. #arx #smartminds #joinus

The New Harbor Bridge, which replaces the existing aging Harbor Bridge in Corpus Christi, recently celebrated its completion during a Texas Department of Transportation ribbon-cutting ceremony. The bridge is the longest precast concrete segmental cable-stayed span in the world and is the tallest structure in South Texas. The replacement bridge safeguards the US 181 transport corridor for commuters and provides greater vertical clearance for shipping, enhancing multimodal safety and fostering economic growth while creating a new landmark for residents and visitors. Our partner CARLOS FERNANDEZ CASADO, S.L. (CFCSL), together with its joint-venture partner Arup, served as the Engineer of Record for this technically-complex project alongside FlatironDragados, a role that included close collaboration and innovative construction engineering. Congratulations to the entire project team on this achievement! #arx #cfc #smartminds #joinus
