When master’s students voluntarily trade a sunny afternoon by the pool for a four-hour colloquium on Algorithmic Management, you know you’re in great company. ☀️💻 Yesterday evening, five brilliant students shared their ongoing research on AM:  🔹Rezwan explored how GenAI may transform algorithmic management practices 🔹Karen examined how managers adapt their leadership styles in response to AM 🔹Henning offered a developer’s perspective on building algorithmic management systems 🔹Julian discussed how workers perceive hybrid human–algorithmic management 🔹Enrique presented a tool for AI-driven scale development What impressed us all most was how these individual projects are beginning to interlock, gradually forming a bigger picture of how algorithmic management is impacting different organizations and roles. A big thank-you to everyone for the lively and insightful discussions! I’m excited to see how these projects evolve. If you’re curious about any of them, feel free to reach out! 🚀 #AlgorithmicManagement #ResearchColloquium #ISECommunity

  • 🎓 ISE at AOM 2025 🇩🇰 This year’s Academy of Management (AOM) conference in Copenhagen brought together thousands of scholars from around the world. 🌍 We at ISE | TU Darmstadt were proud to be part of this global exchange with four exciting contributions: two full papers, one interactive poster, and a thought-provoking panel. 💡 Our contributions to AOM 2025: 🔹 Panel | "One Decade of Algorithmic Management" With high-profile panelists Monideepa Tarafdar, Mareike Möhlmann, Xavier Parent-Rocheleau, Mari-Klara Stein, and Alexander Benlian, and organized by Isabell Lippert and Armin Alizadeh, this panel reflected on progress, challenges, and future trajectories in the rapidly evolving field of algorithmic management research. 🔹 Paper | "Hybrid Algorithmic Management: Workers’ Perceptions of Trust, Competence & Dehumanization" Karen Beuck, Henning Schmid, Armin Alizadeh, and Alexander Benlian explore how hybrid systems, combining algorithms and human managers, impact workers' perceptions of managerial decisions. Huge thanks to our Master's students, Karen Beuck and Henning Schmid, for developing this paper from a seminar project! 🔹 Paper | "When Humans and AI Work in Parallel" In collaboration with TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology, Christopher Diebel together with Mari-Klara Stein and Alexander Benlian examine the effects of human-Al decision ensembling on the human decision maker. While ensembling human and Al decisions can improve decision-making, the study shows potential negative effects on the competence-based self-esteem of the human decision-maker. 🔹 Poster | "When Algorithmic Controls Collide" Maria Dörr, Armin Alizadeh, Alexander Benlian, and Martin Wiener presented early insights from a study on how multiple, misaligned algorithmic control systems can cause cognitive dissonance among finance professionals. 💬 AOM 2025 was a vibrant exchange of ideas, a platform for bold academic voices, and a celebration of interdisciplinary collaboration. Thank you to the AOM organizers, particularly the AOM CTO Division and to everyone who joined the sessions, panels, and discussions. See you next year in Philadelphia, with even more to share! 🤝 #AOM2025 #AlgorithmicManagement #HumanAI #InformationSystems #ISE #ISECommunity #TUDarmstadt #Copenhagen

  • ⚽️ Kicking Off a Game of Friendship – Schlosspokal 2025 at TU Darmstadt 🏆 Since 1961, faculty members from the Departments of Economics and Business Administration of TU Darmstadt come together each summer to celebrate two things that bring us all together: community and football. 🎓 What began over six decades ago as a simple kickabout of two faculties has grown into a beloved tradition, a friendly match played in high spirits, with mixed teams from across both faculties and their attached chairs, shared laughs, and just the right amount of competition to keep the tension thrilling. This year? Nothing short of being epic. ☔️ In pouring rain, at the foot of the iconic Böllenfalltor, home of Darmstadt’s football club, Schlosspokal 2025 turned into more than just a match. It became a powerful reminder of what defines our faculty: connection, collaboration, and partnership. 🚀 And let’s face it: nothing bonds people quite like football in the mud. Players showed heart, hustle, and good humor, proving once again that the best games are the ones played with friends. Here’s to team spirit, timeless traditions, and the friendships we build beyond the lecture halls. This year’s Schlosspokal was a true success, see you next year! 🙌 #Schlosspokal #TUDarmstadt #FriendshipMatch #TeamSpirit #CampusLife #ISECommunity

  • 🎓 From Framework to Impact: An Inspiring Guest Lecture by Capgemini Invent at ISE 💡 We were delighted to welcome Marius Scheidt and Christian Kunz from Capgemini Invent for an engaging guest lecture and subsequent case study in our Enterprise Architecture Management course. 🏛️📝 Their session offered our students valuable insights into how Digital Architecture drives successful digital transformation, from defining architecture frameworks like TOGAF to achieving alignment between business and IT. 📈💼 A highlight was the hands-on case study that followed, simulating an in-depth real-world enterprise architecture scenario. Our students stepped into the role of digital architects to assess EA maturity and develop recommendations for improvement. 🧩📊 Key takeaways: 🔹 EAM reduces complexity, aligns IT with business strategy, and enables transformation. 🔹 Capability maps provide a stable foundation for architecture analysis. 🔹 Technical debt management is essential for sustainable IT landscapes. 🔹 Modern architects need both technical expertise and business acumen. A heartfelt thank you to the Capgemini Invent team for sharing their expertise and giving our students practical perspectives on enterprise architecture in today’s complex IT environments! 🙌 #EnterpriseArchitecture #DigitalTransformation #CapgeminiInvent #GuestLecture #PracticeMeetsAcademia #ISECommunity #TUDarmstadt #DigitalArchitecture #FutureArchitects

Associate at Strategy& | PhD in Information Systems Management

🎓 Turns out, writing 50,000+ words earns you a title: I got a PhD! Yesterday, I successfully defended my dissertation in Information Systems. My research explores algorithmic accountability, a crucial topic as AI systems increasingly touch every part of our lives. Understanding algorithmic accountability—and sometimes its absence—in AI systems development is key, as it helps us spot and manage unintended consequences. With algorithmic accountability, as with AI more broadly, we must move beyond surface-level buzzwords and build nuanced, actionable insights. I hope I was able to contribute a little to that ongoing conversation. You can explore my research and publications here: https://lnkd.in/ecBBtDYZ I’m profoundly grateful to the many advisors, colleagues, and mentors whose guidance and support carried me through this chapter. First and foremost, my heartfelt gratitude goes to my advisor, Prof. Dr. Alexander Benlian, for his consistent mentorship, unwavering support, and genuine belief in my work. I’m equally thankful for my colleagues at the Information Systems and Electronic Services (ISE) | TU Darmstadt chair and beyond. Your camaraderie made late-night writing sessions not only bearable but truly enjoyable, and your support during highs, lows, and unforgettable conference trips kept me going. A special heartfelt thanks goes to my family and friends—you know who you are—for your endless patience and understanding when my PhD demanded everything (and sometimes more than it should have). Without you, this degree would not have been possible, and having you in my life means far more than any academic title ever could. As I reflect on this milestone, I carry forward hard-won insights, deep relationships, and unforgettable experiences. The past few years equipped me with sharper analytical skills, a more nuanced perspective on technology’s impacts, and rigorous critical thinking, preparing me to take on real-world challenges confidently. Excited for what’s next—and all the possibilities beyond!
