    𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐛𝐲 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐠 𝐏𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐡: 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫, 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 Gregg Popovich built an NBA dynasty with the San Antonio Spurs. He showed us how leadership simplicity creates lasting greatness. His philosophy was straightforward: clear roles, trust, and putting the team's success ahead of individual glory. The result? A resilient team that adapted quickly and delivered with impact. When I became CHRO at Roche in Germany in 2019, we analyzed why we could not swiftly act on new situations. Why was it taking us so long to deliver and show results with a fairly large and highly talented team. We checked our portfolio and HR project landscape. We had over 250!! HR projects running simultaneously. Some without a clear mandate and unclear scope and most with undefined roles. The complexity diluted our impact and made us slow. We cut the projects down to 50 and assign clear ownership. Though this decision created quite a stir initially, it ultimately provided clarity and allowed us to execute with far greater impact. Similarly, but on a much larger scale, CEO Bill Anderson is reshaping Bayer. "Dynamic Shared Ownership" is meant to reduce complexity, define roles more clearly, and empower teams. His goal? Less friction, faster decisions, and greater agility in adapting to market shifts. All these examples reinforce what Gartner* recently highlighted: effective leadership strategically reduces initiatives, fewer, clearer goals directly tied to measurable outcomes. Great leadership removes complexity and creates clarity, empowering teams to perform at their best. Ideally, this happens not in a one time effort, but through a systemic and coherent approach, enabling leaders not only to grow personally but also to re-invent themselves and reshape their environment whenever needed.     I’ve always found it difficult to put people into boxes or put their uniqueness into a simple statement. What makes us who we are isn’t just one defining trait, it’s something broader, more intangible. It’s a mix of tiny things stored in a part of our brain that doesn’t rely on words, making it hard to explain.
