Thought Leadership and Programs for the Redesign, Resilience and Regeneration of a Green, Inclusive and Open Economy

Info

r3.0 was established to convene a neutral, pre-competitive, global public good space for diverse stakeholders to co-create solutions whereby the sustainability community raises its level of ambition to play its rightful role in spurring a regenerative, distributive and restorative economy. r 3.0 does this by curating events (such as conferences, labs, and virtual online dialogues) and Blueprint Projects that gather Working Groups to collaborate on designing new structures that build off the foundations of existing standards and frameworks in order to recommend steps that boost transformation towards the ideal form of an economy that serves the wellbeing of all. The platform naturally fosters the type of collaboration that makes a new operating system for humanity possible. The Reporting 3.0 Platform was launched in 2012 by BSD Consulting with the aim to create a global multi-stakeholder community focused on identifying and fulfilling the potential of reporting to serve the intersecting interests of sustainability, financial performance, and growth. To better serve this interest and expand its public good value, an independent not-for-profit structure was established in late 2016 under the name 'Oncommons'.

Today marks the last day of our r3.0 2025 Online Conference campaign, taking place next week on September 9, 10 and 11, 2025, in concert with up to 50 Confluences on 6 continents. We have curated a narrative about 'Learning How To Reinhabit Earth Together' through 'Braiding Bioregional Resilience & Regeneration.' The Sessions and Keynotes are seeds in our gardens to live in coherence and togetherness. We just have one shot to get this right in fractal ways. And again, we at r3.0 are extremely proud to present this curated narrative with extraordinary leaders in our field and with all the Confluences on 6 continents that work with us concurrently during those three days. There couldn't be a better place to be to reload batteries for the times in collapse that will come. Get tickets here: https://lnkd.in/ejke95gm; registration closes midnight on Sunday, September 7.

In this presentation in German language, r3.0 Managing Director Ralph Thurm discusses the status and opportunities of authentic sustainability in times of collapse. Based on personal experiences and the need for strategic reorientation for r3.0, he explains the consequences of focusing on bioregionalism, and to what extent this creates new clarity, what you have to let go of personally and professionally and how priorities can be realigned. Do less to achieve more, and why we all need to embark on a grief journey to find new energy and drive. For many stressed out people in what Ralph calls hashtag #ESGLaLaLand, this creates an opportunity to reflect and critically question their own actions. https://lnkd.in/eutWCeJq

r3.0 2025 Online Conference, September 9, 10 & 11, 2025, in concert with up to 50 Confluences on 6 continents. In this pre-Conference week we portrait our Keynote Speakers in chronologogical order. The final Keynote, on Day 3 (our so-called Confluence Debrief Day), pairs two key figures in the development of the Bioregional Congressing practice. David Haenke will share on the fractal nature of Bioregional Congressing, which serves the emergence of ecological economies and nature nations. He'll illustrate his point by sharing the story of how the closing of the 2nd Ozark Area Community Congress (OACC II) in 1981 planted the seeds of the inaugural North American Bioregional Congress (NABC I) in 1984. Laura Kuri will share how her collaboration with colleagues to host the first NABC in the Global South -- hosted in Cuahunahuac, Mexico in 1996 -- introduced important new perspectives into the Bioregional Congressing practice. She will illustrate how these dynamics persist today in her ongoing activism to this day in the work of Bosque de Agua and other initiatives. r3.0 2025 Online Conference, September 9 & 10, 2025, in concert with up to 50 Confluences on 6 continents. In this pre-Conference week we portrait our Keynote Speakers in chronologogical order. Please meet Outgrowing Modernity Author Vanessa Andreotti, who will close out Day 2 of the Conference with a Keynote that will start by identifying the current paradigm's limitations -- how "narrow boundary intelligence" (as Daniel Schmachtenberger calls it) underpins our "entitlement to entitlement.”   Extending the ideas she shared in her interview with us for the r3.0 Seeds Series, she'll contrast this with the emerging paradigm of what Schmachtenberger calls "wide boundary intelligence" that takes "responsibility for responsibility." After establishing these ideas, she will demonstrate how they apply to the bioregioning movement. Get tickets here: https://lnkd.in/ejke95gm

r3.0 2025 Online Conference, September 9 & 10, 2025, in concert with up to 50 Confluences on 6 continents. In this pre-Conference week we portrait our Keynote Speakers in chronologogical order. Please meet Dr. Lyla June Johnston. Her research documents the millennial-scale history of Native American bioregional landscape management through Indigenous Regenerative Ecosystem Design Strategies. In this Keynote, Lyla June will reflect on the intersectionality between Indigenous communities, knowledge, and regenerative practice, and the bioregioning movement. In particular, she will explore mutually respectful and mutually beneficial cross-cultural engagement grounded in agency and autonomy, not misappropriation and co-optation. r3.0 2025 Online Conference, September 9 & 10, 2025, in concert with up to 50 Confluences on 6 continents. In this pre-Conference week we portrait our Keynote Speakers in chronologogical order. Please meet Joe BrewerPenny L. Heiple, who will kick off the Conference with an Opening Keynote on 'How Bioregionalism Brings Coherence to Regeneration of the Earth.' They note that earth systems processes transcend single bioregions, establishing the need for trans-local organizing in partnerships of humans *and* partnerships of humans to earth systems. This approach to working with earth systems bypasses the political dilemma of collective action, and circumvents those undermining political action. And bioregions are the smallest holistic scale to pursue this approach, weaving across bioregions to move toward alignment with earth processes, which are nearing adverse tipping points that are woven in an interdependent web. Through direct bioregional collaboration, we can "let the land organize” us. Get tickets here: https://lnkd.in/ejke95gm

r3.0 2025 Online Conference, September 9 & 10, 2025, in concert with up to 50 Confluences on 6 continents. This week we portrait our individual speakers of online Session 4 – ‘Bioregional Resourcing – Regenerating & Sustaining Diverse Resource Flows’ Get tickets here: https://lnkd.in/ejke95gm How do we resource the bioregioning movement? That's the question we explore in Conference Session Four, which rounds out our series of panels. This includes financial provisioning, but it also applies more broadly to other ecological and social resources, such as water cycle and biocultural regeneration. Session Speakers will explore how this bioregional provisioning applies fractally across scales, from neighborhood to municipality levels, all the way up to continental and planetary scales; and also how it applies horizontally, across bioregions. Please meet Daniela Senkl of the University of Guelph, who will share on her research into opportunities for municipalities to advance beyond Doughnut measures by applying more rigorous context-based assessments of performance relative to ecological and social carrying capacity thresholds, and then explore how to scale up this approach to the bioregional level by integrating policy levers and citizen advocacy.
