🌿 AgroDeltaLab Officially Launches: A Living Lab for Regenerative Agriculture in the Llobregat Delta
On June 3rd, over 100 experts from across Catalonia gathered at Can Calderon in Viladecans to mark the launch of AgroDeltaLab - a transformative Living Lab designed to regenerate the Delta del Llobregat and position it as a leading innovation ecosystem for sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
The event brought together a diverse community of farmers, researchers, startups, public institutions, and citizens, all united by a shared mission: to co-create, test, and scale solutions that address the pressing challenges of urbanization, climate change, and food system transformation.
Our Head of Naked Academy, Kristian Orozco Figueroa and Marketing and Communications Lead, Sarah Heaney, hosted the showcase of research and innovations where they presented 11 pioneering organizations driving change in Catalonia, including Agrixels and UPCxels, ReForest, AgrotechUPC, IRTA, RegAssist, Osona Biocircular, LARVIC, Science For Change, ZERTIFIER® and #RegenAgX, Generalitat de Catalunya, and CarbonFlow. These presentations highlighted the region's commitment to innovation and sustainability.
A key component of the event was the Shared Agendas workshop, which facilitated collaborative discussions in three focus areas: High Technology Precision Farming Solutions and Sustainable Intensification, Regenerative Agriculture Solutions, and Nature-Based Solutions. Led by Tatiana Fernandez and the Gencat team, these sessions underscored the importance of cross-sector collaboration in driving systemic change.
We were honored to have the Mayor of Viladecans, Olga Morales, and various institutional experts Anna Castellví Méndez, Margherita Bacigalupo, Esperanza Espada, Francesc Trillas, Josep Paradells, Michal Miedzinski, FERNANDO MERIDA MARTIN, Víctor Soria and Carles Ferreiro.
AgroDeltaLab embodies a new paradigm for agricultural and territorial innovation - one that is rooted in the land, powered by advanced technologies, and guided by shared values of sustainability, resilience, and inclusivity. By operating within real-world conditions, the Lab fosters innovation that is both technologically advanced and grounded in the socio-ecological reality of the Delta.
As we move forward, AgroDeltaLab aims to serve as a model for other regions, contributing to a broader Mediterranean and European movement towards climate-neutral, regenerative, and socially inclusive food systems.
