- 3. What are superlatives? Un superlativo es la forma de un adjetivo o un adverbio utilizado para comparar tres o más cosas.
- 4. How is it used superlatives? For example: It was the happiest day of my life. / Fue el día más feliz de mi vida. Everest is the highest mountain in the world. / El Everest es la montaña más alta del mundo. La forma superlativa de un adjetivo se utiliza para mostrar que algo tiene una cualidad en mayor o menor grado. La forma superlativa de un adverbio se utiliza para mostrar que algo ha realizado una acción en mayor o menor grado.

- 8. Use of Superlative Adjectives Usamos un adjetivo superlativo para describir una cosa en un grupo de tres o más cosas. FOR EXAMPE: • John is 1..75m David is 1.80m Chris is 1.85.m Chris is the tallest. / Juan mide 75M. David mide 1.80.m Chris es el más alto. • Canada, China and Russia are big countries. But Russia is the biggest. / Canadá, China y Rusia son países grandes. Pero Rusia es la más grande.

Use of Superlative Adjectives Si hablamos de los tres planetas Tierra, Marte y Júpiter, podemos usar adjetivos superlativos como se muestra en la siguiente tabla: Diámetro (km) Jupiter is the biggest / Júpiter es el mas grande Distancia al Sol (millones de km) Jupiter is the most distant from the Sun. / Júpiter es el más distante del Sol. Duración del día (horas) Jupiter has the shortest day. / Júpiter tiene el día más corto.

Con los adverbios superlativos, también podemos optar por usar ‘THE' o ‘NO ITEM'. • Lucas reads (the) faster. / Lucas lee (el) más rápido. • I like vanilla ice cream better. / Me gusta más el helado de vainilla. • She can speak six languages, but she speaks Spanish (he) with more confidence. / Ella puede hablar seis idiomas, pero habla español (el) con más confianza. Todos estos ejemplos comparan a una persona o cosa con otras personas o cosas. Sin embargo, a veces comparamos a una persona o cosa en una situación con la misma persona o cosa en una situación diferente. En este caso, cuando el adjetivo superlativo o adverbio está más adelante en la oración, generalmente no usamos ‘THE.

Cuando un adjetivo termina en una consonante + vocal corta + consonante (C + V + C), normalmente duplicamos la última letra. grande - bigger – biggest FOR EXAMPLE: • London is bigger than Santiago. / Londres es más grande que Santiago. • Mike is taller than John, but James is the tallest / Mike es más alto que John, pero James es el más alto.
