🌍 On #WorldCleanUpDay2025, we join #EUBeachCleanUp, an EU initiative in partnership with the United Nations to take action against one of the biggest threats to our planet: marine pollution. By 2040, up to 37 million tonnes of plastic waste will reach the ocean each year, endangering marine life and accelerating the loss of biodiversity in our rivers and seas. Last year, more than 12 000 volunteers came together across 53 countries to make a difference. This time, let’s go even further. At the EIT, we know that individual action and system-wide innovation must go hand in hand. That’s why, later this year, we’ll launch #EITWater —a brand-new pan-European Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) dedicated to tackling water scarcity, pollution, and biodiversity loss. By bringing together startups, researchers, industry, and citizens, EIT Water will build solutions to protect one of our most precious resources. 💧On this World Clean-up Day, we encourage you to do your part: join a clean-up event, raise awareness, and take steps in your daily life to reduce pollution. At the #SOTEU2025 this week, President von der Leyen showcased dotLumen as an example of how Europe is building a competitive and prosperous Union. And they truly deserve it. This Romanian deep-tech company has developed glasses that use advanced AI to empower visually impaired people to live more independent lives.
