At One Ocean Planet, working together is everything. We know it takes a global community to ensure the future we are working towards. Most times our work is direct, and many times we support others. At #UNOC3 we were happy to support World Economic Forum’s 1000 Ocean Startups at The Startup Reef, as well as Katapult Ocean on their Impactful Innovations Day held aboard the legendary Statsraad Lehmkuhl. We talk a lot about how little time we have to turn the tide so it is critical we work together, critical we champion those with the same values, and critical we accelerate those working toward the same vision (that don’t have ego-ballast to slow us down). The Startup Reef showcased 40 pioneering start-ups driving scalable solutions for a regenerative blue economy (note we didn’t use the word “sustainable”) which during the week reported about 150,000 visitors - a powerful signal of global momentum behind the ocean and innovation. It was great being on Team 1000 Ocean Startups championing critical innovation, and as investors ourselves in several of these, a pleasure to be there for our portfolio companies. Being on Team Katapult Ocean for their Impactful Innovations Day was very rewarding as we helped them welcome more than 1,000 participants to take part in 13 powerful sessions. Throughout the day investors, founders, scientists, policymakers, and ecosystem leaders exchanged bold ideas, urgent questions and real solutions for our ocean. As CEO Katapult Ocean Jonas Skattum Svegaarden said, "Making impact is all about bringing great people together to co-create solutions that solve huge system challenges. We hope this day will create a large impact for the future." We are sure it will.
