Think MongoDB is for side projects, product catalogs, and social media feeds? Think again! The "niche NoSQL" label is long dead. For over 15 years, our engineering team has been laser-focused on one thing: building an enterprise-grade database for modern applications. Instrumental improvements during our history include: - Eliminating single points of failure: We introduced self-healing replica sets for high availability and automatic failover. - Delivering massive scalability: Sharding—which enables virtually limitless horizontal scaling to support massive datasets and high-throughput operations—is a native, foundational part of MongoDB. - Multi-document ACID transactions: The introduction of multi-document ACID transactions was arguably the single most important development in our history. This feature meant that complex operations involving multiple documents could be executed with the same atomicity, consistency, isolation, and durability (ACID) guarantees as a traditional relational database. - Ensuring strict security and compliance: To meet enterprises’ stringent security demands, we added features like role-based access control (RBAC), detailed auditing, and Field-Level encryption. The release of Queryable Encryption, an industry-first technology that allows querying of fully encrypted data, was a revolutionary breakthrough. The result? Over 70% of the Fortune 500 trust MongoDB. So do 7 of the 10 largest banks, 14 of the 15 largest healthcare companies, and 9 of the 10 largest manufacturers in the world. And we're not done. We're now building agentic and AI-based tooling to accelerate legacy application modernization, and we continue to improve and refine everything about our products, of which I call out a few exciting upcoming ones.
