Ormen Lange Subsea Compression project: Live, Powered, Delivered
What a milestone! 🚀 Shell’s Ormen Lange Subsea Compression project officially started production this summer and was celebrated yesterday at Nyhamna on Norway’s west coast.
With the launch of two subsea compression stations, new gas volumes are now flowing to Europe. This development is set to increase field recovery from 75% to an outstanding 85%!
At Aker Solutions, we’ve supported all three Ormen Lange phases at Nyhamna, and this time our challenge was integrating the new subsea compression system with the onshore plant.
The onshore station now supports the subsea compressors, which are 120 kilometers out in the Norwegian Sea, delivering them power and cooling from shore.
This was no plug-and-play operation. Our team had to level up on high-voltage expertise, embracing a steep learning curve and proving our capacity to adapt and deliver. Our workforce in OLP3 was trained, certified, and equipped to tackle the new challenges ⚡ ⚡ ⚡
The experience we’ve gained in high-voltage work is pure gold for current and future electrification projects in our pipeline, like Troll West electrification, Draugen power from shore, Njord electrification, and beyond.
We didn’t do it alone. Serving as the integrator, Aker Solutions brought together sub-suppliers, local contractors, and most importantly a strong collaboration with our customer, Shell.
Congratulations to the entire team, and special thanks to Shell.
Collaboration, innovation, and a whole lot of cable brought us to this milestone!
