Our engineering teams have successfully moved a massive 1,631 tonne steel bridge into place over Lawley Middleway in Birmingham finishing 4 days ahead of schedule. 🤩 The 112 metre long structure is the first piece of the one mile stretch of viaducts that will carry high-speed trains into Birmingham Curzon Street Station. Using innovative night-time operations, we minimised disruption while our teams worked with specialist contractors Mammoet to slide this engineering marvel into position. It was great to welcome the Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander MP and Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, to our Birmingham Curzon Street construction site yesterday. It was fantastic to show her the progress we're making - from the completed Curzon 3 viaduct sections to our preparations for the 1,600 tonne Lawley Middleway bridge move later this month. A real highlight was introducing the Secretary of State to our apprentices and team members who have found permanent employment through HS2. A giant steel bridge weighing 1,631 tonnes is ready to be moved into place over Lawley Middleway in central Birmingham.      The 112m long structure will be moved during night-time operations and will form part of the one-mile stretch of five connected viaducts bringing high-speed trains into Curzon Street Station.    Rather than building the bridge in situ, disruption to road users has been drastically reduced by constructing the steel span on land next to Digbeth Canal over the last two years.    Learn more: https://gloo.to/F75v     #Birmingham #Viaduct #HS2  Balfour Beatty VINCI

As part of our work to upgrade the local road network ahead of the future HS2 Interchange Station, the former A452 overbridge was successfully demolished over the weekend.     The complex three-span structure was carefully removed by Solihull-based specialist contractor Armac Group, working on behalf of our construction partner Balfour Beatty VINCI.
