Rather than building in place and causing major disruption, the new steel bridge over Lawley Middleway was constructed off-site beside Digbeth Canal over the last two years👷♂️🌉.    On 15 August 2025, lifting experts Mammoet rotated the massive structure 90° using two self-propelled modular transporters, a precision move that marked the start of the installation.     Over four consecutive nights, a rare skidding system with a jacking push/pull mechanism was used in tandem with the SPMTs to slide the bridge into its final position.     🎥 Watch the full video here: https://ow.ly/fV8E50WJoYp  #Birmingham #Bridge #HS2

In just the last 3 months, 168 more unemployed people have started new careers building Britain’s new railway. That brings the total to 5,191 jobseekers who’ve transitioned into roles on HS2 through dedicated training and support. This success is driven by HS2’s job brokerage model, which collaborates with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), National Careers Service, local authorities, and employment services to connect people with opportunities. Our latest YouTube video 🎥 shows how habitat is being created on London’s northwestern edge with three million tonnes of chalk excavated during construction of the line’s 10-mile-long tunnel.     The scheme, known as the Colne Valley Western Slopes project, will see 127 hectares of former agricultural land restored to biologically diverse grassland, reminiscent of the rare chalk downlands that are found in pockets across the Chiltern Hills.     Lying on either side of the railway, the newly landscaped area straddles is being seeded with a variety of plants that thrive in chalky soils, including kidney vetch, greater knapweed and sainfoin.     Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/ejyi6Ggn #Environment #Ecology #HS2  Align JV

Over the bank holiday weekend, engineers working on HS2’s London tunnels lifted the last of four giant tunnelling machines to the surface. ‘Anne’ – named after engineer Anne McLaren, was lifted out of a shaft from the Green Park Way in Greenford, West London, on Sunday, 24th August, seeing daylight for the first time in 16 months! Our engineering teams have successfully moved a massive 1,631 tonne steel bridge into place over Lawley Middleway in Birmingham finishing 4 days ahead of schedule. 🤩 The 112 metre long structure is the first piece of the one mile stretch of viaducts that will carry high-speed trains into Birmingham Curzon Street Station. Using innovative night-time operations, we minimised disruption while our teams worked with specialist contractors Mammoet to slide this engineering marvel into position. We have completed a major 749m realignment of the River Cole in Warwickshire — the most significant on the project to date. Designed to improve biodiversity, climate resilience, and community access, the project transforms a section of the river near Coleshill into a more natural, meandering watercourse. This vital realignment supports the construction of two major viaducts for the Birmingham Spur of HS2’s Delta Junction. Delivered by Balfour Beatty VINCI, with designs from Mott MacDonald and SYSTRA and in consultation with the Environment Agency the scheme goes beyond standard mitigation — enhancing habitats and creating new public green spaces. When reopened, the area will offer footpaths, grassed embankments, and water features, connecting people with nature and forming part of HS2’s Green Corridor.
