A Journey of Growth: Macy Reddy’s Rise from Assistant Cost Clerk to Quantity Surveyor (QS). When Macy Reddy joined Barhale in November 2016, she was taking her first step into the civil engineering industry with a company known for its strong commitment to development and long-standing expertise. Her father, a construction manager at Barhale, had been an early source of inspiration, but Macy’s path would become uniquely her own. We’re proud to be delivering this important scheme for Anglian Water Services as part of the Anglian Water @one Alliance at Bedford Water Recycling Centre (WRC). Once complete, Bedford WRC will benefit from a robust drainage system, strengthening resilience for Anglian Water and safeguarding the water quality of the River Ouse well into the future.
Take a look at one of the largest diameter directional drills we've ever delivered at Bedford Water Recycling Centre! As part of our £2.2 million investment at Bedford Water Recycling Centre, we’re installing a brand new 600mm gravity outfall to free up the existing 900mm outfall, which eases the pressure on the existing system and helps Anglian Water Services meet their flow-to-full-treatment (FFT) requirements. The upgrade includes 238 metres of new pipeline, with 149 metres carefully drilled beneath mature trees. At 710mm in diameter, this is a seriously big drill shot and a real feat of engineering. When complete later this year, Bedford WRC will benefit from a permanent, resilient drainage system that cuts operational risks for Anglian Water and helps protect the water quality of the River Ouse for years to come. #oneAlliance #AnglianWater #Bedford #WaterRecycling #DirectionalDrilling

STEM engagement with West Oxford Community Primary School. As part of our initiative to drive STEM engagement and education, we were delighted to host a visit from West Oxford Community Primary School at our Oxford site where we are working on a Thames Water critical asset. The pupils from years 5 and 6 learnt about the tunnelling works being undertaken and the world of civil engineering. They carried out maths activities such as determining the diameter of the pipes and TBM (tunnel boring machine), the number of pipes required for the tunnel distance as well as estimating the full height of the crane and its lifting capability. Following their informative session on site, the pupils named our TBM – choosing to call it "Steel Dragon". Inspired by what they learnt, the students participated in a voluntary poetry competition about the TBM. The poems showcased the pupils’ understanding of our tunnelling works and we were pleased to award prizes to the most creative entries. Thank you to our team who made the day possible – Chris Wright (Site Agent) who delivered talks on the TBM, Harriclea B. (Customer and Stakeholder Manager) who discussed the function of a crane, Natalya Depa (Site Technician) for covering the importance of our project and its benefit to the community, Samuel Smith (Customer and Stakeholder Lead) for delivering the session on our use of excavators and tunnel pipes and Isabel Duke (Customer and Stakeholder Advisor) who supported in our early engagement with the school and facilitated the awards. Rebecca Morley (Year 5 Teacher) fed back: “Many thanks for a great visit yesterday. The children and adults really enjoyed it. Many now want to be engineers!” #STEM #NextGeneration #CivilEngineeringCareers #OurCommunity

New River Eade Road leakage refurbishment project completes. Barhale, alongside Thames Water have recently completed a £6.3m project to refurbish a section of the New River alongside Eade Road, in order to future-proof water supplies to North London and prevent leakage. The New River, Thames Water’s oldest asset, delivers high-quality drinking water for customers across North London. The works carried out have stabilised the embankment to prevent future flooding risk and leakage, through the installation of a sheet piled wall using a GIKEN LTD. Piling Rig. Find out more from Steve Collett (Contracts Manager) and Daniel Bolton (Sub Agent) in this video. #WaterInfrastructure #CivilEngineering #ProjectCompletion #LeakageRefurbishment #InfrastructureResilience

Northern Region provides commercial work experience. Our Northern Region commercial team were pleased to host a week’s work experience for Alex Hodgkiss, who has recently completed a degree in Business Management at Liverpool John Moore’s University. Alex took the opportunity to spend a week at Barhale to gain some exposure to working in the commercial function of a civil engineering business. Throughout the week, Alex visited a number of projects where we are working for Severn Trent and it’s great to hear his feedback: “This week on my work experience placement with Barhale, I shadowed Quantity Surveyors to gain insight into the role and its responsibilities. I visited multiple sites, including those in Stoke-on-Trent, Uttoxeter and Worcester, to observe ongoing and upcoming projects. I attended CVR meetings and supported tasks such as cost plan forecasts, cash flow forecasts, subcontract procurement schedules and programme ECI submissions. This gave me valuable exposure to both office-based commercial work and on-site project scoping.” #WorkExperience #NextGeneration #Careers

Successful completion of Lower Penn project for Severn Trent Water. We are excited to share the successful completion of the Lower Penn project in the Wolverhampton area, delivered on behalf of Severn Trent (STW). This complex scheme included the installation of a 1.8km rising main, a segmental concrete shaft with an 800m³ storage tank at Lower Penn and a weholite plastic pipe nest with a 250m³ storage tank at Warstones. Despite a last-minute design change due to a TPO tree enforcement, Barhale and STW worked collaboratively to meet the regulatory deadline set by the Environment Agency, with the plant fully commissioned and operational since March. With all site compounds now demobilised and final snagging completed, Barhale is proud to hand over a fully operational and compliant asset to STW. This project is a testament to the dedication and teamwork between Barhale and STW, overcoming late-stage challenges to deliver a high-quality solution on time. A huge thank you to everyone involved for their hard work and collaboration throughout the journey. #projectcompletion #collaborativeworking #waterinfrastructure
