BVCA hosts London MP to discuss UK competitiveness, investment and pension reform The BVCA was delighted to host the MP for the Cities of London of Westminster, Rachel Blake, in the BVCA offices this week. The BVCA team set out how private capital was driving innovation, growing businesses and creating jobs across the UK, backing firms in sectors such as life sciences, clean tech, and digital services. The Government's pension reforms and the UK’s competitiveness was another point of discussion during the meeting. It was an opportunity to hear about Rachel’s work on the Treasury Select Committee, including recent inquiries into the use of AI in financial services, the National Wealth Fund, and the Government’s Spending Review. The BVCA provided submissions to the Committee for all of these inquiries. As of 2024, private capital supports 784,000 jobs in London, with 677 companies receiving £14.1bn of private capital investment in 2024. There are over 2000 businesses headquartered in Rachel’s constituency of Cities of London and Westminster, which are backed by #privateequity and #venturecapital - employing hundreds of thousands of people both in London and around the entire UK.

📚 Academic research shows private equity investors value their funds conservatively. The BVCA’s External Research Hub now includes the latest academic and industry research which examines the accuracy of net asset values (NAVs) reported by private equity and venture capital funds. As the industry body for the private equity and venture capital industry in the UK, the BVCA is committed to providing impartial and comprehensive research of the highest quality to all its members and wider stakeholders. Valuations is the latest addition to the BVCA’s external research hub. Private Capital Supporting Growing Businesses in Scotland 📈 John Lamont MP, Member of Parliament for Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk visited innovative Scottish Borders company Kibosh Ltd. to see the impact of private capital investment on regional growth and sustainability. Kibosh is backed by Par Equity, an early-stage venture capital firm supporting high-growth tech companies across the north of the UK. In 2022, Kibosh secured investment to advance its leak repair technology for oil, gas, and liquid pipelines, helping scale operations and strengthen its position in plumbing repair solutions. The company has developed a patented range of emergency pipe repair clamps and freezing systems that are now used across residential, commercial, and industrial markets. The company welcomed John Lamont MP to its headquarters last week, where he met the team, learned about their sustainability impact, and discussed growth plans with Founder and CEO Ross Dickinson.
