Investing in the future of quantity surveying in Hong Kong We’ve sponsored two scholarships through the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) Quantity Surveying Division for the 2024–2025 academic year. It’s great to support students who are ready to shape the future of our industry. 🎓 Congratulations to this year’s recipients: • Chan Chun Hei – The University of Hong Kong • Yu Nok Man – The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Our Hong Kong Director, Yik Andy, presented the awards and said: “It’s a pleasure to meet these talented young students. We hope to work with them in the future as they help us add value and build a better future.” We’re looking forward to what comes next and to welcoming the next generation of quantity surveyors.

Purcell has won a RIBA London Award for their work on the Elizabeth Tower. This win marks the end of the biggest restoration project on the landmark since it was built 160 years ago. This Grade 1 listed building has now been restored to its former glory, securing its place as an iconic landmark for generations to come. We managed costs, provided benchmarking advice, and reduced risks. Our team was there at every step, to make sure the project progressed smoothly and met its key objectives. We gave clear guidance during planning, building, and completion. The four-year project included a new lift, new glazing for the four clock dials, stone restoration, and roof replacement. We managed the cost of specialist conservation trade packages, and complex conservation work. Our team worked with the client, and design teams throughout the project, to ensure the project’s successful completion. We have helped improve the Parliamentary Estate for more than ten years. Our work includes: - Making the estate’s engineering systems stronger and more reliable - Upgrading fire alarms and detection systems - Improving heating, ventilation, and catering services for the House of Lords - Modernising lifts and chillers in important buildings - Upgrading major equipment and services across the estate - Fabric restoration projects For more information on how we supported this once in a generation refurbishment, contact Anthea McDermott FRICS, Director – commercial management. https://lnkd.in/e6Ab63ME

We recently welcomed Lostock High School students for a ReachOut workplace visit at our Manchester office, giving a window into careers at Currie & Brown. The students brought energy and asked sharp questions about project management, budgeting and the construction sector. We spoke honestly about diverse career pathways and the power of teamwork. One student summed it up perfectly: “I learnt that teamwork is much more important than I thought to be successful in your job.” Supporting ReachOut is one way we help young people gain the skills and confidence to thrive.

Sustainability is central to everything we do. Adam Mactavish, our Director of Sustainability and Chair of Sidara’s Sustainability Council, shares how we’re embedding resilience into the built environment, project by project, policy by policy. From London Climate Action Week to global frameworks, Adam champions the mindset shift our industry needs, putting purpose, accountability, and systems thinking at the heart of every decision. “The road to success is just as much about policy and changing behaviors as it is designing the solutions.” In our latest Voices & Visions feature, we speak with Adam Mactavish, Chair of Sidara’s Sustainability Council and Director of Sustainability at Currie & Brown, to explore the practical realities of building for resilience—and the leadership needed to drive lasting impact, fresh off the momentum of London Climate Action Week, held 22–30 June 2025. As Adam explains, “More and more, people want to work for organizations that reflect their values—and sustainability is central to that. Our vision is to embed it into every decision, every service, and every conversation... demonstrating how sustainability isn’t a separate initiative but a shared opportunity—one that drives growth, sparks innovation, and builds long-term value.” From aligning global action to embedding accountability into every project, Adam shares why systems thinking, collaboration, and purpose-driven design are key to turning climate ambition into measurable results. 🔗 Read the full feature and discover how Adam’s work is driving real change in the built environment: https://lnkd.in/ggJ6N6bK #Sidara #VoicesAndVisions #Sustainability #ClimateAction #BuiltEnvironment #LondonClimateWeek

We’ve been shortlisted! Excellence in Community Engagement – London Construction Awards 2025 These awards recognise the importance of building with communities, not just in them. We’ve been shortlisted for our work with YouthBuild Ventures UK on two inspiring Community Asset Build (CAB) projects in Thamesmead and Bellingham in June. Local young people took on real job roles from logistics coordinator to materials lead, gaining hands-on experience, confidence, and skills, supported throughout by our team. The projects included: ✅ Sustainable builds: raised beds, benches, and shelters. ✅ Mentoring and career exposure for young people with our colleagues. ✅ Creation of lasting physical assets for community use. As Martell Lindsay from YouthBuild UK said: “We’re building more than benches and bird boxes… we’re building stronger communities and empowering the next generation.” This nomination is proof that when we build with purpose and partnership, we lay the foundations for stronger futures. #SocialValue #CommunityEngagement #YouthBuildUK

Bringing care closer to communities in the East Midlands, UK This Wednesday (16 July), directors Michael Simpson and Elise Cavanagh will join a roundtable hosted by the RSA focused on health policy. The session will be chaired by Dr Andy Haynes MBE and forms part of the Inclusive Growth Commission for the East Midlands. Healthier places, stronger communities We’ll explore how the new Combined Authority can better support people affected by poor mental health, musculoskeletal conditions, and wider health inequalities. One place, many services We’ll be discussing how to make better use of community-based buildings to deliver joined-up services. That means bringing health, care, and wider support together under one roof. Together, we can deliver health infrastructure that brings services closer to the people who need them and supports inclusive growth across the East Midlands. #CommunityHealth #HealthInfrastructure #GoodWork

Doug McGillivray spoke with AGBI - Arabian Gulf Business Insight about growing cost pressure in Middle East construction as copper prices hit record highs. You can read his thoughts here: https://lnkd.in/eBGy4YaA Copper prices are surging due to global supply issues and tariff uncertainty. The impact is sharpest on projects with heavy MEP demands. These rely on copper for wiring, cabling, and pipework This means more project teams are revisiting material price fluctuation clauses under FIDIC contracts. These clauses need agreement between employer and contractor, making them a crucial negotiation point. When structured clearly and agreed early, a formula-based mechanism helps manage volatility. You can avoid disputes and reduce the need for built-in contingencies, keeping budgets tight and delivery on track. For more information on how we can help manage cost volatility on your projects, get in touch. #Contracts #MiddleEast #Costs
