Every 90 minutes, someone in the UK or Ireland dies by suicide. Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, I’ve been reflecting on my journey so far as a Samaritans volunteer. I feel deeply fortunate to be trusted by callers at some of the most difficult and painful moments of their lives, and to be able to simply listen when they need it most. Yesterday marked the completion of my mentoring period with my inspiring mentor, who has been with Samaritans for over 13 years – a true testament to the strength and dedication of this community. I feel so honoured to be part of this family of volunteers, who show up with compassion for others every single day, to listen without judgment whenever someone needs support. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay

  • A junior reshuffle, but one with strategic consequences.   Labour’s latest ministerial moves reward loyalty, reshape regional influence, and signal a doubling down on No 10’s current approach, even amid calls for recalibration.   Scottish Labour is on the rise. The North West loses out. And the deputy leadership race could bring simmering tensions into full view.   Our latest blog explores what the reshuffle tells us about Labour’s internal politics and the road ahead. • What really happens behind closed doors when political scandals erupt? We asked our experts - people who have been in the room at No.10, in Parliament, across the Civil Service, inside political parties, and at the news desk - to share what these moments look like from the inside. Read their views in our latest blog, with reflections from Stephanie Lis, Dame Tracey Crouch, Khobi Patterson-Vallis, Patrick Hennessy and Ian Walker. Collectively, they offer a rare glimpse into how Westminster will be managing its latest test. https://lnkd.in/ek6nVwbe

Getting national attention for issues with complicated systems and processes is tricky — especially in healthcare. However, in the past week, human stories and straight-talking language have been well used to raise awareness of the challenges currently facing the UK life sciences sector. With Government negotiations hitting a stumbling block, companies have used national platforms including the BBC and The Times to show the real-world impact of the current situation. I’ve written more on why this approach has worked — and what it could mean for the future — in PRWeek here

Modern Service Frameworks (MSFs) are shaping up to be one of the most important health policy tools of this Parliament. For those with longer memories, the idea isn’t new. The last Labour Government’s National Service Frameworks were some of the most powerful levers for system-wide change – setting national standards in areas like cancer, mental health and heart disease, and leaving a legacy that shaped services for years afterwards. This time, the context is different. The 10-Year Health Plan sets a broad vision for what the NHS could look like in 2035. MSFs are one part of making that vision real: condition-specific frameworks designed to translate the big shifts in the plan into tangible goals and expectations for service delivery. So far, cardiovascular disease, dementia and severe mental illness have been confirmed. But that doesn’t mean the door is closed. The very purpose of the MSF approach is to look at conditions where a clear mission goal can be defined – and where coalitions of clinicians, charities, industry and patients can show how the NHS could realistically deliver against it. That means there is space for others to make their case. But the winning arguments won’t be about more guidance or extra checklists. They will be about outcomes, evidence and delivery partnerships. At Hanover Communications, we’re already working with clients to navigate this landscape: helping to frame conditions around the government’s missions, to build the coalitions that matter, and to shape the policy debate before frameworks are locked in. MSFs are not just another document. They are a rare opportunity to define the national standard of care for the next decade. And if you want to discuss what that could mean for your area – do get in touch.

  • Great to hear Dame Tracey Crouch on BBC Radio 4 Today programme after the Lionesses’ historic back-to-back win at the Euros. “This success hasn’t happened overnight,” she said. “It’s been a very long journey...but now is the time to continue to build on this momentum. We need people to understand the true value of women’s football so that they are investing properly to continue the growth trajectory.” A very timely reminder that real progress is rarely quick - it comes through years of persistence, connection and trust in the value of long-term change.
