Joanna Wachowiak at the opening of the final parcel of the Domaine Regence development, at Serris, near Paris, designed by John Simpson Architects as the project nears completion. It was opened by the Mayor of Serris, Philippe Descrouet. Joanna Wachowiak said ‘We have been so impressed by everything that has been achieved at this development and the effort put in by the whole team to create a piece of urban architecture that everyone should be proud of and that people here in Serris will enjoy- by the landowners Real Estate Development by Euro Disney, the developers- Les Nouveaux Constructeurs and our French partners architects BLM A26 Architectures and PARIS CLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE. This project will hopefully become something of a model for others to emulate.’

It was in June 1987, 38 years ago this month that the counter proposal for Paternoster Square backed by the King, when he was Prince of Wales, was submitted for planning permission to the City of London. This was the beginning of the King’s campaign, launched with his speech to the RIBA at Hampton Court, to give a voice to ordinary people so they could participate in creating the kind of environment in which they would wish to live.
