Application scientist - Extraction and Enrichment at Markes International

Last month, I had the pleasure of presenting two applications at Pittcon in Boston. Not only was it my first trip to the US, but my first Pittcon and It was amazing to speak with a lot of scientists doing really interesting experiments. I did have some interesting questions in both of my talks, here are some examples: Detecting adulterated Paprika: Identifying Quality and authenticity markers using headspace and TD with GC-MS. “Have you thought about using GC-O for this flavour/fragrance analysis? It seems this would be very interesting with thermal desorption” Answer: Although we didn’t use GC-O for this application, some of our customers use it as standard with our Centri platform, targeting analytes that they could smell but couldn’t see using other techniques. We have a case study which highlights a customer benefitting from our technology with GC-O from plant-based alternatives coming soon to the website, so keep a look out on James Williams’ LinkedIn! Sensitive, high-throughput quantitation of chlorophenols and common odorants in water using high-capacity sorptive extraction with GC–MS. “ Can HiSorb be directly immersed into liquids?” Answer: HiSorb is a very robust technology that has a stainless steel core and large phase capacity, reducing potential saturation. Therefore, immersion of liquids is not a problem. “Can HiSorb be automated?” Answer: HiSorb is available in manual and automated modes, depending on the Centri thermal desorber that you choose. If you want to download any of the presentations, please drop me a message and I can send them over. Speaking of firsts, it was also my first basketball game watching Boston Celtics win against Philly 76ers! An amazing atmosphere and an overall great trip! 🍀 🏀

Helium shortages and rising costs are pushing labs to switch to hydrogen as a carrier gas – but making the transition can feel daunting. Analysts typically have concerns regarding sensitivity, spectral fidelity and safety. Others worry about GC method conversion to hydrogen and the implications of doing so. 👨💻 Join Separation Science’s webinar on 16 April to hear from GC–MS experts who have already been through the process. Dr. agr. Andreas Kapaklis and Anika Maier from TESTEX, Swiss Textile Testing Institute will share their experience of implementing hydrogen carrier gas in their TD–GC–MS workflow, revealing how they were able to seamlessly execute their methodology with maximum throughput, performance and convenience while maintaining compliance with rigorous OEKO-TEX® standards. Markes’ Materials Emissions Specialist, Caroline Widdowson, will also be discussing the analytical instruments involved. There are two broadcast times to choose from, both including Q&A sessions: 🕙 Broadcast #1: 10:00 BST / 11:00 CEST / 14:30 IST / 17:00 SGT 🕙 Broadcast #2: 10:00 PDT / 12:00 CDT / 13:00 EDT Click here to find out more and register ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eK_EPFxg
