The training has been done (look at some of the photos 😍), and this weekend, 14 Silvery Tweed Loafers are taking on the two Northumberland Coast Mighty Hikes this weekend to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Starting at Alnwick Castle and finishing at Bamburgh Castle, both the 13 and 26-mile walks take in the stunning Northumberland coastline. Six of our team will tackle the 26-mile walk on September 13th, with eight taking on the 13-mile coastal route the following day, to raise £3,500 to support people living with cancer. Today marks Back British Farming Day, a moment to celebrate the vital role farming plays in feeding the nation and caring for the countryside. At Silvery Tweed Cereals, we see this commitment every day at our farm, The Mead, where our farm-to-fork philosophy begins. By growing our own crops, we ensure a secure, sustainable supply of cereals that meet the highest standards of quality for our customers. We put sustainability at the heart of what we do. The Mead plays a central role in supporting biodiversity, improving soil health, and reducing the food miles of our ingredients. This direct connection between farming and food production means we can provide traceable, high-quality cereals while also safeguarding the land for future generations. As we join others across the country in backing British farming, we’re proud to stand alongside farmers and growers who dedicate themselves to producing food responsibly, sustainably, and with care. We’re delighted to share that our Technical Administrator, Emma Nicholson, has achieved the Royal Society of Public Health Level 4 Award in Managing Food Safety & Hygiene. The intensive course, made up of four days of classroom learning and a four-hour exam, builds on Emma’s expertise and strengthens the capability of our entire technical team. This follows her success in completing the Level 4 Award in Managing the HACCP System earlier in 2024. Congratulations, Emma! 🎉 #FoodSafety #TeamSilveryTweed #ProfessionalDevelopment #Quality https://lnkd.in/ezcQ23Ag

When we set out on our environmental sustainability journey, supported by Beyondly, one of our early aims was to understand how much it costs in carbon terms to manufacture products here at Silvery Tweed. Well, now we know. Every tonne of product manufactured in our factory generates 40kg of carbon. In sustainability speak, that’s 0.04 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e). Being a responsible supply partner is important to us, and carbon reduction has a key role to play in our business – now and in the future. You can read about our carbon reduction journey so far and download a copy of our first ever sustainability report on the website via the link below. And look out for the results of our carbon reduction efforts over the last 12 months, coming soon! https://lnkd.in/ebg6z66n #NetZeroJourney #CarbonReduction #FoodIngredients #FoodIngredientSupplier #Sustainability

Well, we called it: in last month's crop update, we predicted that harvest would get underway in South Scotland around the 10th of July. Our combines left the sheds on the 8th, making this the earliest start to a harvest we have experienced in Scotland by some distance.
