About us
DISRUPTING DISPUTE RESOLUTION SINCE 2001 The Mediation Company is the brainchild of Founder and CEO of The TCM Group, David Liddle. With a 30 year track record at the forefront of mediation, restorative justice, coaching, training and consulting, David has become increasingly convinced that the best way to resolve a dispute is through dialogue. Simple, constructive dialogue. When people talk and listen, they can move mountains, they can literally change the world. Litigation and courtrooms don’t change the world. They maintain the status quo. They fuel adversity and they reduce a relationship to right/wrong, attack/defend and win/lose. There are no winners, well not amongst the ones who are fighting at any rate. Whilst there will always be a place for litigation, in the most serious cases, and the courts provide an invaluable safety net of justice for the vulnerable, David’s belief is that our reliance on litigation and litigation inspired processes is damaging businesses as much as it is damaging our society. Mediation offers a better way. It is common sense. It makes sense. It works!

We were thrilled to launch The Mediation Exchange last week: TCM’s brand-new community of practice, exclusively for TCM Accredited Mediators. This space brings practitioners together every two months to share insights, reflect on live cases, and grow in confidence and connection. 🎯 Highlights from our first session: • When is it too early - or too late - for mediation? • Coaching as a complement to mediation. • Solo vs co-mediation – best practice in action. • Managing curveballs and expectations. • Avoiding “tick-box” mediation. • Embedding informal resolution in workplace culture. 💡 Key takeaways: • Early engagement is vital, but timing must be right. • Coaching boosts mindset and confidence for parties. • Mediation should always be voluntary, not a checkbox. • Internal mediation needs infrastructure, supervision, and visibility. • Honest first conversations set the tone for success. It was inspiring to see practitioners sharing openly about challenges like hybrid cases, cultural dynamics, skill fade, and the emotional toll of mediation. This kind of peer learning is exactly what The Mediation Exchange is here to support. We’re also excited to share that our CEO David Liddle will be joining a future session to hear directly from our mediator community. 💡 Top tips for handling conflict between leaders: 🔹 Separate the people from the problem – focus on resolving the issue, not differences in values. 🔹 Shift from power to needs – move away from who’s “right” or “wrong” and focus on underlying interests. 🔹 Set a clear, shared agenda – agree in advance what will be discussed to provide structure. 🔹 Ensure both sides approve the negotiation points – this builds ownership and trust in the process. 🎉 Celebrating the incredible team at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) as our Customer of the Week! Together, we’ve been on a transformative journey to create a respectful, inclusive culture – grounded in kindness, empathy, and early resolution. ✨ A huge milestone? The launch of IDS’ new Respect Policy and Report + Support platform – the result of 18 months of research and engagement. As Julia S., HR Advisor, shared: “By combining conflict management coaching and mediation with the Respect Project, underpinned by the Resolution Index, we’ve been able to put people and resolution right at the heart of our approach.” 👏 Congratulations to Julia, Anna Spragg (Head of EDI), Kenya Simpson Martín (Assoc.) (Human Resources Advisor), the whole IDS team and our consultant partner Laura May, PhD for showing what values-led leadership and systemic change can achieve. 👉 Discover more about IDS’ journey: https://lnkd.in/gJiMKeeK #leadership #hr #coaching #mediation #resolution #workplaceculture #consultancy

You’ve resolved the conflict… now what? In today’s workplace, a signed agreement doesn’t guarantee real repair. Conflict leaves a residue of shame, stress, broken trust that mediation alone can’t always reach. That’s where coaching comes in. 📅 Our next webinar on 14 Aug is a powerful session exploring how blending coaching with mediation creates sustainable, trauma-informed and human-centred outcomes. We’ll show you how to move from surface-level solutions to deep, transformative change at the individual, team, and organisational level. ➡️ Secure your place now for free: https://lnkd.in/eNkz6Q6y Engage Coaching The Mediation Company #mediation #coaching Louise Webb (Assoc CIPD) Lily Driver-Thurston Emily Reilly

Over the past few days, we've had the pleasure of working with a fantastic cohort at The TCM Academy, delivering our HR as Coach and Mediator course. This two-day programme is all about building on delegates’ instincts for resolution, whether they’ve coached, mediated, or are simply curious to explore these powerful tools. What made this week even more exciting is how we’re starting to weave AI into our delivery, as part of our ever-growing continuous improvement for training. Our CEO, David Liddle, has developed a bespoke Custom Chat GPT coach, trained on TCM's frameworks. Delegates used it to explore real-world challenges, and by personalising their prompts, they explored deeper insights into conflict resolution and coaching techniques. Leading the sessions was our brilliant TCM Accredited Trainer and Mediator, Nick Snaith, who brought in elements of positive psychology, emotional intelligence, and nudge theory, helping participants build boundaries, set goals, and drive meaningful change. If this sounds like something you'd benefit from (or know someone who might), or if you’re curious about our Custom Chat GPT coaching tool, feel free to drop our Training and Events Manager, Cameron Duncan, a message at Cameron.Duncan@thetcmgroup.com. #ai #CustomChatGPT #mediationskills #mediationtraining #traininganddevelopment #culturechange #conflictresolution #mediationpractice
