On Sunday, our West Berkshire team enthusiastically took part in Newbury Krazy Races. The inaugural event encourages teams to race through Newbury Town Centre, navigating obstacles in front of around 10,000 people. 🏎️🏁 It was a real team event building the cart from scratch with contributions not only from VolkerHighways employees but also our supply chain partners. Kerby, our road safety mascot, came along for the ride and especially enjoyed the day. Congratulations to our team who managed a respectable 13th place out 20, against some fierce semi-professional competitors! After a disappointing first run of 47 seconds, we managed to chip 12 seconds off and finish in 35 seconds – just 11 seconds slower than the winners. We look forward to supporting future community endeavours.

We are incredibly proud to have played a crucial part in this achievement. Electric vehicles are transforming the way we move, reducing emissions, and reshaping the transport landscape. 🔌⚡ Our VolkerSmart Technologies delivery team is already making strong progress on the next 1,000 chargers in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets which reflects the strength of our collaborative partnership with ubitricity. #EVcharging
Update on our roll-out in Tower Hamlets: We’ve successfully installed 1000 Public Electric Vehicle Charge Points in in just 45 days 🔌 🔋 We’ve hit the half way point on our roll-out of 2000 charge points in Tower Hamlets, with our installation team installing the 1000th on-street charge point in just 45 days. Our UK Managing Director Stuart Wilson shared a few words on the roll-out: “We are confident that this is one of the fastest roll-outs of mass public charging infrastructure in the UK. We could not have done this without close co-ordination with London Borough of Tower Hamlets which lead to this fast and smooth installation schedule. This roll-out shows that local authorities can provide much needed public charging infrastructure at speed and scale.” There were a total of 84,218 electric vehicle charging points in the UK at the end of July , this roll-out alone accounts for 1% of that figure. Which is a huge feat to achieve in just 45 days (figures taken from Zapmap). Our 5kW charge points, which can take less than 30 minutes to install, have been installed into existing lampposts on residential streets, providing residents with close-to-home public charging for their Electric vehicles. We worked with installation partners VolkerSmart Technologies, subsidiary of VolkerHighways for the project, who during peak installation phases of the project installed over 70 charge points in one day. 🎉 Learn more about our plans to install a further 1,000 charge points across the borough by the end of 2025 here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e-bcixvD

Zero outstanding pothole orders in BaNES for Bath & North East Somerset Council! 🙌 Thanks to the use of Viafix permanent cold-lay material and our Thermal Road Repair vehicle, our team has achieved an incredible milestone - zero outstanding pothole work orders across BaNES! These solutions have enabled our crews to complete pothole and small patching repairs more efficiently. With materials stored directly at the depot, we’ve reduced travel time to the quarry, minimised downtime, and eliminated waste from unused materials.

Improving footways across West Berkshire 🙌🏽 This summer, as part of West Berkshire Council’s annual footway programme, we’re delivering over 14,000m² of micro-surfacing to restore and protect pedestrian routes across the region. Micro-surfacing is a sustainable solution that repairs surface imperfections and seals the footway to prevent fretting caused by ageing surfaces. It creates a safer, more consistent surface, reducing trip hazards, without the need for excavation, bringing clear environmental benefits. 📍 Take a look at the transformation at Rangewood Avenue, where we’ve already completed over 2,000m² of micro-surfacing - https://shorturl.at/g99fy

Recently, a team of six from our West Sussex County Council highway maintenance contract visited HMP Ford where we presented to approx. 40 prisoners all looking for work upon their release. 💼📝 HMP Ford is an open men’s prison, where the guys work in various positions and learn vital skills for their release into the ‘real world.’ The team gave an introduction into VolkerHighways and the wider business followed by engaging small-group sessions where participants shared their CVs and highlighted their skills and experiences. Overall, the experience was extremely positive, and we’re excited about the opportunity to collaborate with and support the prison throughout the duration of the contract.

Swing into summer! 🏏☀️ Our West Berkshire Council highway maintenance team recently hosted their first-ever rounders tournament! Teams from across various VolkerHighways contracts came together for an afternoon of friendly competition and sunshine - with a few sunburnt necks to prove it! The line-up included brilliantly named teams: Best Berkshire, Abingdon All Stars, No ‘Hit Sherlock, Ball Breakers, and TM. Each team played four exciting matches, making time for some banter and well-deserved downtime. A huge congratulations to our overall champions, No ‘Hit Sherlock - representing West Berkshire with pride! The tournament helped raise over £500, which has been match-funded by VolkerHighways, bringing the total to £1,000. All proceeds will go to the National Animal Welfare Trust (Trindledown Farm), West Berkshire’s chosen Close Call charity for 2025, supporting their vital work rescuing and rehoming cats, dogs, and other animals in need. Special thanks to Carolan Construction for donating a hog roast which went down a treat! Thank you to everyone who took part and brought their energy, enthusiasm, and competitive spirit. Here's to more great events to come! 🙌🏽
