Thank you, Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities at Notre Dame (LEO), for helping shed light on scalable homelessness prevention solutions like the Santa Clara County Homelessness Prevention System! Some lessons learned from yesterday’s webinar with LEO's David Phillips, County of Santa Clara Office of Supportive Housing’s Jessica Orozco, Mary's Place’s Alyson Moon, and our own Chad Bojorquez: 🛑 Targeted, rapid, flexible financial assistance prevents homelessness. 💪 With intentional design and collaborative partnerships, communities can build prevention programs that turn the tide on homelessness. ✅ To solve homelessness, we need to address the root causes – like the widening gap between what people earn and what housing costs. 🧰 See how this evidence-based prevention model can work in your community: https://lnkd.in/ebCseMWU #PreventHomelessness #SolveHomelessness #EvidenceMatters

Today, Los Altos is breaking new ground – literally! Distel Circle is transforming into the community’s first 100% affordable housing development. 🏗️🔜🏘️ The site will soon provide 90 units of much-needed housing – housing affordable to lowest-income households who are most at risk of homelessness – thanks to the partnership of the City of Los Altos, the County of Santa Clara, and EAH Housing, and funding from the 2016 Measure A housing bond. Together, our community is ending and preventing homelessness. #HousingEndsHomelessness

A home is more than a safe place to sleep—it provides stability, community, and a foundation for the future. But too many families are being pushed into homelessness faster than housing solutions can keep up. That’s why preventing homelessness before it starts is so important. In Santa Clara County, Destination: Home is leading a collaborative effort to end homelessness. Together with County of Santa Clara and Sacred Heart Community Service, they created a shared database that connects residents to financial assistance, legal support, and case management, ensuring people can get the right help quickly.

Like many in our community, Jeffrey’s encounter with homelessness was due to a sudden loss of income. His medical condition rendered him unable to work, and soon after, he lost his housing. Today, Jeffrey is healthy and using his lived experience to help stabilize people transitioning out of homelessness. “It’s been so meaningful, and it just doesn’t feel like work. It feels like I’m right where I’m supposed to be, doing the work I’m supposed to be doing.” Hear more from people who have lived through the experience of being unhoused and are now using their voice to change systems: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gQbWMHs2 #CenterLivedExperience #SolveHomelessness

The cost of housing is keeping people homeless—not reliance on deeply limited social supports. Facts: ➡️ Many people without housing are already working or looking for work, but wages don’t cover rent. ➡️ Others lost housing after a health crisis or death of a spouse left them unable to pay the bills on their own. ➡️ For older adults and those with chronic conditions, working may no longer be possible, and their benefits aren't enough to cover rent. ⛔ Pushing people into overcrowded shelters doesn’t solve the problem. When time is up, they’re back on the street—without the tents and other belongings that helped them survive. The solution isn’t taking help away. It’s investing in affordable housing and supports so people have the stability they need to stay housed. https://lnkd.in/e4vQEgrK
