We help make DowntownDC #SoMuchMore!

About us

Since 1997 the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) has been all about making a difference—right here, in the ways that it matters most. We take pride in keeping the streets clean and inviting, uplifting local businesses, and creating spaces that bring people together—all to make downtown DC a place that feels like home. Our work is hands-on, community-focused, and driven by the belief that even the smallest actions can have a big impact. From hosting events that bring the neighborhood together to advocating for the changes our city needs, we’re here to make downtown DC better every day. This isn’t just work for us—it’s personal. We’re proud to be part of a team that’s creating something meaningful for the people who live, work, and visit here. Because at the end of the day, it’s simple: We do BID things to make downtown DC the best it can be.

  • You can help us plan the summer of 26 & 27 in downtown DC. While Capital One Arena takes it well-deserved glow-up break, the DowntownDC BID is leading the charge to reimagine what summers in the city can be. We’re investing $30K–$100K grants into bold, high-impact events that will turn Gallery Place-Chinatown into a stage for the District’s creativity, culture, and community spirit. Because let’s be honest… we don’t do “quiet summers” around here. This is not just about filling up your calendar. It’s about unleashing a new era of downtown energy… one where local businesses thrive, foot traffic rises, and residents and visitors feel the buzz of something exciting in the air. To dive deeper into the vision, we sat down with Mark Simpson, our Director of Planning & Economic Development, to talk about: -Why this RFP was created and why Gallery Place/ Chinatown is the focus -The kinds of proposals and themes we hope to see -Tips for first-time applicants -The long-term impact these activations could have on our neighborhood 📅 Apply by Friday, September 5 📄 Full details here: https://lnkd.in/eNfEQPb3 Thanks the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development for helping us make this opportunity a reality. This is your chance to be part of what’s next. Let’s make downtown unforgettable. #BeDowntown #EconomicDevelopment #DCEvents #RFP #Grants

  • Last week, our entire corporate team had the opportunity to visit the Gensler office for a hands-on training session led by the brilliant Kate Kirkpatrick and Matt N.. As the team guiding us through our rebranding journey, Gensler didn't just present a new visual identity—they walked us through what it means to live, breathe, and embody our new brand across every department. Through thoughtful exercises and perspective-shifting discussions, we explored how this new brand shows up differently depending on your role. What does it look like for public space? For marketing? For operations? For finance? We quickly realized that alignment doesn’t mean uniformity, it means shared purpose expressed through our diverse lenses. Big thank you to Kate, Matt, and the entire Gensler team for leading us through such an eye-opening, energizing day. Your guidance helped unlock fresh thinking and gave our team the clarity to move forward with purpose and alignment with the brand. We’re excited to keep building this next chapter together. #Branding #Rebrand #Teamwork #Gensler #Collaboration #WeDoBIDThings #GoBIDTeam

  • What if a dead office building could become the blueprint for Downtown D.C.’s future? Enter Mint House — One of Downtown D.C.'s first completed office-to-hotel conversion, now open with 85 intentionally designed units, full kitchens, in-room workspaces, and modern amenities for extended stays. 🛏️ But this isn’t just about a cool new hotel — it’s a sign of what’s possible when we rethink how cities use space. As the District pushes forward with adaptive conversion strategies through Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development’s “office-to-anything” initiative, Mint House proves that reimagining outdated offices can work — and that thoughtful design matters. This is just the beginning. A more vibrant, mixed-use future for Downtown D.C. is taking shape — and we’re here for it. 📍Located at 1010 Vermont Ave NW 📸 Featuring photos from our recent visit inside Mint House Read more about what’s new downtown: https://lnkd.in/eEgMRr-d #DowntownDC #UrbanTransformation #MintHouse #EconomicDevelopment #OfficeToAnything

  • What would our cities look like if we designed them for people instead of traffic? At the DowntownDC BID, we’re answering that question with the Streets for People grant, turning Anthem Row into a vibrant hub where families, friends, and neighbors gather. Here’s what we’ve achieved so far: 🌈 Over 80,000 visits to Anthem Row from January - May, 2025 – a 35% increase year-over-year. 🎉 Immersive cultural activations like the Lunar New Year Lantern, Cherry Blossom Daruma, and The Prism – each drawing large, diverse crowds. 🎭 Back in March our Daruma Event alone boosted foot traffic by 462% and generated $6K in local business revenue through cultural experiences like sushi classes, taiko drumming, and kimono fashion shows. 🤝 Collaborating with local businesses and creative firms to infuse Anthem Row with diverse perspectives, while boosting the local economy. And we’re just getting started—with new landscaping, public seating, and aerial lighting on the horizon, Anthem Row is becoming a place where community thrives, without the need for cars. Thanks to the DC Office of Planning and My Ly, this is what happens when you make Streets for People. Are you ready to reimagine urban spaces? 🏙️💙 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eV79qMJ6 #StreetsForPeople #WeDoBIDThings #DowntownDC #CulturalCapital #WalkableCities #Placemaking
