Understanding Toxic Shame and Healthy Shame in the Recovery Process Presented by Brook Thomas-Cohn, M.Ed, LADC Friday June 13, 2025 1 PM to 2:30 PM $30 1.5 Hours CE (Including 1.5 Hours Drug and Alcohol Specific for LADC) This presentation will discuss two types of shame: toxic and healthy shame. Most therapists and clinicians are aware of the detrimental effects of toxic shame in abuse/addiction, but are unaware of the need to define, describe, and understand why we must possess a certain amount of healthy shame in our lives. John Bradshaw’s work on toxic shame and Pia Mellody’s work on the common characteristics of all children will be explored.
