Hydrant Guard is an above grade valve attachment that prevents sheared fire hydrants from releasing water surges.
About us
Hydrant Guard is an easily installed above grade valve attachment that prevents sheared fire hydrants from releasing water surges. A sheared (broken) fire hydrant can spew thousands of gallons of water per minute onto roads, sidewalks and buildings. Incidents like this are very common, occurring mainly due to automobile accidents. With a minimal effect on actual hydrant operation, Hydrant Guard goes unnoticed until it’s needed. As soon as a hydrant is sheared, Hydrant Guard springs into action. Its valves immediately close, effectively sealing the water supply and significantly reducing water loss, leaving only a witness stream as a signal.

#California #HydrantWatch ⛲👀 0️⃣9️⃣/1️⃣8️⃣/2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣ When a hydrant gets sheared, the last thing you want is a mini-Niagara running for hours 💦 That’s exactly what happened this last weekend, with crews unable to tame a high-pressure, 125ft tall geyser until hours (and who knows how many gallons) later. In addition to the water loss, property damage has been reported. 🏚️ That’s why we build check valves for wet-barrel hydrants: to stop the flood before it starts... because you never know how long it could spew uncontrolled. 🚫🌊 #WaterLoss #CAWater #EndHydrantGeysers #WaterConservation https://loom.ly/4fKhE0k

A thoughtful op-ed on the importance of holistic thinking in water security, in contrast to LA's (and SoCal's) long history of banking on water imports. https://loom.ly/ANwxn-o

Clean water and robust infrastructure won't come cheap. "We have to invest more. But the money has to come from somewhere. And I guess right now we’re just saying, ‘It comes from you, local ratepayer, so you’re on your own'", per Greg Pierce of UCLA's Human Right to Water Solutions Lab. https://loom.ly/pa9vtAg

“A near-term crisis is unfolding before our eyes. The gap between ongoing water use and the reality of how much water actually flows in the Colorado River poses a serious near-term threat." The #CORiver can't wait for user-states to reach an agreement. https://loom.ly/G3blICA
