The University of Kansas Medical Center is advancing a new CAR T-cell therapy trial that underscores the power of collaboration in moving life-changing science forward. At KCAS Bio, we’re proud to provide the bioanalytical support that helps make breakthroughs like this possible, turning complex science into measurable impact for patients.
A treatment known as CAR T-cell therapy has been a game changer for many people with blood cancers such as lymphoma and leukemia. But not everyone responds to CAR T-cell therapy or stays in remission. For some, the cancer develops resistance to the drug. Researchers at The University of Kansas Cancer Center have launched a clinical trial for a new form of CAR T-cell therapy dubbed "Triple Threat," which triples the drug's number of molecular targets to circumvent the cancer's resistance to treatment. A study’s success hinges on more than the assays themselves. It begins with the sample matrix you choose. This reference guide explores the scientific and practical considerations that shape matrix selection, including antigen stability, anticoagulant effects, shipping logistics, and fixation strategies. With these factors in mind, sponsors and planners can align sample choice with both real-world study constraints and long-term scientific goals. Making the right decision at this stage helps ensure fewer surprises and more meaningful, actionable results. Our scientists don’t just drive innovation in the lab; they’re also out in the scientific community sharing their expertise. We’re proud to share that Dawn Dufield, Ph.D, Scientific Officer, Mass Spectrometry at KCAS Bio, will be a featured speaker at an upcoming SCIEX event in San Diego. Dawn Dufield, Ph.D will be discussing LC-MS/MS bioanalytical strategies for various therapeutic drugs and their conjugates [ADCs, Oligos, siRNA, ASOs and AOCs/ACRs] by QQQ and HRMS. Learn more about Dawn by checking out her profile in the Mass Spec Bioanalysis Community on Linked In: https://lnkd.in/dEDAhtxF #KCASBio #SCIEX #DrugDevelopment #Bioanalysis #ScientificExcellence
Another week, another member from the BioA community: Have you met Dawn Dufield, Ph.D – Scientific Officer, Mass Spectrometry at KCAS Bio❓ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘄𝗻? I have 30 years of professional experience in the field. I’m based in Kansas City, KS (United States). 🔧 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁/𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗦 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. My first instrument was the SCIEX API III. I think we all remember that you had to check with everyone before you hit the recycle button, as that would take the instrument down for a day. Ahh, the not-so-good old days! 🧫 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀? I love working with protein and surrogate peptide quantitation using hybrid LC-MS/MS workflows, especially post-immunoaffinity enrichment. I also love (and hate) quantitating what others think isn’t possible. 💀 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗔 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁... I still have nightmares about compounds that are either incredibly sticky and cause carryover, or ones that won’t stick at all and have zero chromatographic retention. 👉 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂? If you want to be part of this post series, contact Kirsten Craven or me to be featured. #Bioanalysis #MassSpectrometry #Biopharma #Pharma #SCIEX #MeetTheBioACommunity #KCASBio

Monitoring anti-drug antibodies (ADAs) isn’t a checkbox. It’s foundational to understanding how a therapeutic interacts with the immune system. Our latest blog by KCAS Bio Scientific Advisor, Lindsay Rutherford, Ph.D., walks through the importance of ADA assay development, from early surrogate antibody generation to clinical validation, and why getting ahead of immunogenicity can inform safety, efficacy, and IND readiness. For sponsors, investing in immunogenicity insight early means stronger confidence in program advancement before unexpected immune surprises emerge. Cytotoxicity assays are more than a checkbox, they’re a window into how a therapy behaves in the real world. And in our experience, flow cytometry makes that window wider, clearer, and more actionable. By delivering high-content, single-cell insights, flow cytometry can distinguish immune activation from true cytotoxicity, uncovering subtle safety signals that traditional averaged readouts might miss. For sponsors, that means making informed decisions earlier, before costly setbacks. Explore how this approach could change the way you view cytotoxicity results: https://lnkd.in/gqAgEB_E #FlowCytometry #DrugDevelopment #SafetyAssessment #Cytotoxicity #Bioanalysis #PreclinicalTesting #BiotechInnovation #ScientificExcellence
