I just attended a webinar on consumer loyalty from Morning Consult, and it's got me thinking about how quickly the landscape is shifting! While price is a major driver, leading to changes in grocery and restaurant spending, there's a huge opportunity for brands focusing on value. 👛 Think about how companies like Walmart are thriving by meeting the increasing demand for affordability. Walmart's CEO, Doug McMillon, stated that households earning over $100,000 made up 75% of their market share gains in grocery. 📈 This trend has been observed for several quarters and is partly attributed to wealthier consumers seeking value amid inflation, as well as being attracted to Walmart's convenience options like pickup and delivery services, especially for groceries. Beyond price, consumers are also switching due to 🧘♀️ lifestyle changes 🕵 quality issues 🌳 and ethical alignment. So, it's more than just a numbers game - it's about being relevant and resonant. One surprising insight: Travel is where loyalty holds strongest! ✈️ Perhaps due to less frequent purchases and fewer alternative options. But here's the real challenge: when consumers do switch, 57% are highly satisfied with their new choice, and they find it fast (often within 1-3 tries!). This means the window for capturing new customers is super narrow. ⏱️ My personal favorite insight: convenience can be the ultimate glue! 🤩 Even when consumers aren't thrilled, ease of access and use can keep them coming back.
