Say hello to Odie, Atlantic Coral Reef's latest resident! Odie, or Odysseus, is a Kemp's ridley sea turtle. Odie lived at a turtle breeding facility in the Cayman Islands until it closed in 2022. He had spent his whole life in human care, so we offered him a new home at our Animal Care and Rescue Center until he was ready to go on exhibit. Keep an eye out for Odie during your next visit, and learn more about Odie’s journey here: https://bit.ly/4mpqUPO

June 26 marked the end of an especially busy seal rescue season. Our team at the National Aquarium Stranding Response Center in Ocean City cared for 13 sick and injured seals, and our long-term seal rehab suites at our Animal Care and Rescue Center in Baltimore quickly reached max capacity. Learn why more seals are turning up in need of medical care on Mid-Atlantic beaches, and meet some of this season's seal patients: https://bit.ly/4mkILHB

Red-eared sliders are the most widespread freshwater turtle on Earth because of humans. 😮 In the past, tiny red-eared slider hatchlings were sold in pet stores. When they grew, pet owners who could no longer care for them released them into their local environments. The Living Seashore exhibit turned ten this year! Our goal was to bring the Mid-Atlantic coastal system to the Inner Harbor with our most interactive exhibit yet. You can get hands-on with horseshoe crabs, moon jellies and more. It’s a great way to prepare for what you might see on your next family beach trip, too. Hear what muralist @inkdwell had to say about it upon its 2015 opening, and learn more about our award-winning exhibit here: https://bit.ly/476lhRT

When it's too cold to release rehabilitated sea turtles in Maryland, our staff jumps in the car and makes the long, 17-hour drive south to Florida. ☀️ Learn more about the process, from the multi-hour turtle prep to arranging permits for traveling with endangered animals: https://bit.ly/4lwov4N

Renewables like wind and solar are cost-effective, better for public health and cause far less harm than fossil fuels. Still, there's a lot of confusion and misinformation about renewables. Last year, National Aquarium Director of Field Conservation Charmaine Dahlenburg joined the Orioles to throw out the first pitch against the Seattle Mariners, ending in a 9-2 win. ⚾ The first pitch celebrated the ongoing partnership between the Aquarium and O's, particularly the planting of our Harbor Wetland prior to its opening last year. We wish the O's all the best of luck tonight as they face off against Seattle.
