Another Successful Session of Virtual Grand Rounds! NorthStar Anesthesia’s third session of Virtual Grand Rounds brought together clinicians nationwide for a deep dive into one of today’s most important topics in anesthesia: Intraoperative Hypotension (IOH) and its impact on patient outcomes. Hosted by our Office of Clinical Quality, this quarterly webinar series provides an invaluable opportunity for clinicians to gain knowledge, share expertise, and earn free CME/CE credits — all from the comfort of their own practice setting. This session, “Understanding and Managing IOH to Avoid Adverse Outcomes: Recognizing IOH as an Overt Marker of Hemodynamic Instability and a Modifiable Driver of Postoperative Risk,” explored: ➡️ Recognizing IOH as a modifiable risk factor ➡️ Best practices and data-driven approaches for IOH detection and management ➡️ Early intervention strategies and standardized protocols to optimize patient safety and care A special thank you to our expert panelists — Dr. Wael Saasouh, Regional Director of Research; Desirée Chappell, MSNA, CRNA, FAANA, VP of Clinical Quality; Dr. Dominick Iaconetti; Steve Garvin, Assistant Chief CRNA; and Lisa Hosko, Assistant Chief CRNA and Director of Education — for leading a dynamic and informative discussion that involved clinicians across the country. Take a look at some of the exciting events our Academic Affairs team hosted this summer: 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞: In early June, our team hosted an “Ask an Anesthesia Leader” lunch for senior RRNAs from the University of South Florida Matt Martin—Vice President of CRNA Services—joined students for a candid discussion on choosing the right career fit, transitioning from student to professional CRNA, the business of anesthesia, contract negotiation strategies, and more.   𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲: Our team made their first visit to South College in Knoxville, TN, where NorthStar provided lunch from Salsarita's and SWAG for the students. The South College NAR 2s were on campus practicing spinal and epidural placements in the morning, followed by spinal placement checkoffs in the afternoon. These students rotate through a variety of NorthStar clinical sites across Texas, West Virginia, Ohio, and Georgia.   𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭: Last week, our team visited Ursuline College to host a dinner for the SNAP Nurse Anesthesia Program’s Class of 2026. Many of these SRNAs will soon begin rotating through our Mercy Health clinical sites in the Toledo, OH area. During the dinner, Matt Martin and Mandy Spitzer—Vice President of Academic Affairs—led a “Transition to Practice” seminar, joined by Laura Burger—Regional Director of CRNA Services.
