On this day in 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his historic "I Have a Dream" speech, fueling progress toward the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Let's honor the legacy of this historic day by continuing to ensure every eligible Californian can make their voice heard at the ballot box. 🗳️

On Monday, Secretary Weber commemorated the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in a panel discussion alongside some special guests! During the conversation, panelists reflected on the legacy of this landmark legislation, the progress made over the past six decades, and the ongoing work to protect every person's right to vote. 🗳️ The program concluded with a showing of "The Journey to Democracy," our newest exhibit at the California State Archives showcasing the struggle for voting rights. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this milestone as we remain committed to the work still ahead.

On National Women's Equality Day, we commemorate the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, securing women the constitutional right to vote. 🗳️ Today and always, we honor the trailblazers who paved the way for equality as we ensure every woman's voice is heard and valued.
