Healthy Rural Communities. Healthcare Revolutionized.
About us
Orchid Health operates rural health clinics and school-based health centers across Oregon, providing accessible and compassionate healthcare to rural communities. With a focus on relationship-based care, Orchid Health is dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of both patients and caregivers. Since its founding in 2014, Orchid has consistently challenged the traditional model of top-down, command-and-control governance in healthcare. Instead, Orchid has emphasized relationships, trust, and autonomy while expanding access to care in some of Oregon’s most underserved communities. With six thriving clinics, Orchid has proven that prioritizing the wellbeing of its clinic teams not only creates a more desirable workplace but also drives industry-leading quality outcomes and economic sustainability. This unique approach has enabled Orchid to reduce administrative burdens and unnecessary bureaucracy, ensuring a more patient-centered approach to healthcare - addressing one of the biggest challenges facing healthcare organizations today. Our mission: To advance a new model for community health to thrive based on relationships, joy in work, and healthy equity. Our core values: Challenge the status quo. Cultivate respect. Courageously vulnerable and accountable.

At Orchid Health we believe that a healthy healthcare organization starts with caregivers who are cared for and have the trust and autonomy to do what they feel is best for their team, patients, and community. To operationalize this, we have made employee well-being our #1 priority, and teams across our organization are consistently sensing (what feels healthy/what needs attention) and responding (making proposals/taking action) to improve our workplace and culture. This sensing and responding is supported via a monthly "how're you doing" survey, an advice process, and a clear set of guardrails (what are the non-negotiable constraints and what is more flexible and up to teams to decide). - Need more FTE? Ask for it and partner with a finance team member to determine how to pay for it - Think a team lunch would help strengthen relationships? Schedule one. - Need ergonomic office furniture? Order it. - Want a work-from-home day? Talk to your team about it and figure out a good schedule that supports patient care needs. Healthy, cared-for team members show up in ways that build positive and trusting patient relationships, and when patients feel respected and cared for they are much more likely to engage in their care plan/healthy behaviors, which then results in improved health outcomes. Autonomy, or having control over the decisions that impact one's day-to-day, has been stripped away from very talented healthcare professionals resulting in severe burnout. I think it's time we give it back. And, if you have the courage to do so, I think you'll find the results astonishingly positive. Curious about where to start? I'd suggest the insightful work of Frederic Laloux and his book "Reinventing Organizations". Check out his wiki here: https://lnkd.in/gA5Yf25K
