This summer, Adam joined our OA team, putting his studies from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania into practice and gaining new experience along the way. Internships like Adam’s remind us that growth happens on both sides: students gain real-world experience, and we gain fresh perspectives that strengthen our work. 🚀 It’s now easier than ever to apply to the Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy, thanks to a new online application and eligibility checker built by our CODE PA team in partnership with DMVA. The new digital process replaces the old paper system, helping prospective cadets quickly find out if they’re eligible and complete their application, all in one place. It’s written in plain language, easy to navigate, and designed to save applicants time and effort. 💬 “The new online application represents a major leap forward in making access to this vital program simpler, faster, and more efficient,” said Bryanna Pardoe, CODE PA Executive Director. This collaboration is part of our commitment to ensuring state programs are accessible to everyone, no matter where they live or how they apply.

As we wrap up our summer with intern Matthew Berryhill, we want to take a moment to say thank you and celebrate his time with us.   Matthew joined CODE PA through the PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) Summer Internship Program to sharpen his coding skills. But his experience quickly became about more than just code. He explored digital accessibility, human-centered design, and how inclusive digital services are built, topics not often emphasized at the college level. From day one, Matthew was supported by Kristopher Adams, Chief Accessibility Officer, who helped immerse him in the values, tools, and teams shaping accessible, people-first digital services across the Commonwealth.   One of the highlights? Meeting Governor Josh Shapiro and First Lady Lori Shapiro at the Governor’s Residence. But just as meaningful were the everyday moments, coffee chats with staff, learning from different teams, and getting a real look at how public service works behind the scenes.   He spent time with team members across CODE PA from Accessibility and UX to Engineering, Content, and QA gaining a full view of how all the pieces fit together and understanding “the whole cookie is made.”   His advice to future interns? Apply early. Dive in on day one. Be open, ask questions, and learn everything you can.   Matthew brought curiosity, creativity, and professionalism to everything he touched. He made the most of his time here and left a lasting impression on all of us.   We’re grateful for programs like this that help build a more inclusive workforce and give students meaningful pathways into public service.   Swipe to learn more about his time with our CODE PA team. Every Pennsylvanian deserves access to government services in a language they understand.   That’s why we, in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, are proud to launch the new Language Access Management Program, a major step forward in making our services more inclusive, accessible, and effective.   This initiative supports the broader vision of Governor Shapiro’s HIRE Committee, which is focused on strengthening the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s workforce and ensuring our government truly reflects and serves the people of Pennsylvania.   Through this program, agencies are gaining the tools and training they need to serve multilingual communities more effectively.   Staff are being trained to better support diverse populations, while AI is helping translate materials more quickly and accurately. Thousands of small acts of giving can lead to big change. ✨ That’s the power of the State Employee Combined Appeal (SECA), a program that helps Commonwealth of Pennsylvania employees support charities directly through the workplace. Behind every successful campaign are the dedicated agency SECA coordinators who organize, inspire, and give their time to help fellow employees support the causes that matter most to them. Today, we recognized the top-performing agencies from the 2024 SECA Campaign, thanks to the leadership and commitment of their coordinators. Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Secretary Laurel Harry, last year’s SECA Campaign Chair, and PA Department of Banking & Securities Secretary Wendy Spicher, this year’s Chair, led the ceremony and kicked off a new tradition of agency recognition.
