August is National Black Business Month—a time to honor the innovation, resilience, and impact of Black-owned businesses across our communities. I want to extend my gratitude to the Pepco crews and teams who completed permanent repairs at the 22nd Street Substation, restoring full service to the Dupont Circle and West End areas following the July 15 equipment failures. On Tuesday evening, July 15, Pepco experienced multiple equipment failures that impacted two feeders (power cables) supplying our 22nd Street substation, causing increased load and stress on the system that led to a series of emergent outages in the Dupont Circle area. Crews replaced 6,100 feet of underground cable, completed eight complex splices, and energized a new transformer that increases capacity and resiliency for customers. Thanks to the dedicated and hard work of our crews, as of August 13, the substation has been fully restored to service. We recognize the impact this event had on our customers and appreciate their patience while our teams worked safely to restore the system. This restoration is part of our broader commitment to modernizing the energy grid and improving reliability across the region. This National Nonprofit Day, we’re celebrating the many incredible nonprofits we partner with across D.C. and Maryland — organizations and higher education institutions that create opportunity, celebrate diversity, and strengthen our communities. That includes the University of the District of Columbia, Howard University, and Prince George's Community College, where programs connect people to career resources and workforce training. It also includes the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which inspires creativity, and Capital Pride Alliance, a champion for inclusion. Together, these efforts — and many more — are building stronger, more connected neighborhoods. Thank you to all of our partners for the work you do every day to make our region brighter. #NationalNonprofitDay #CommunityPartnerships

On July 15, Pepco’s 22nd Street substation faced a critical test—equipment failures that strained our energy system and caused multiple outages in Dupont Circle and West End in Northwest DC. Thanks to the tireless work of our crews, we’ve completed permanent repairs as of August 13. This included replacing 6,100 feet of underground cable and executing eight cable splices—an intricate process requiring precision and expertise. We also energized a new transformer, increasing the substation’s capacity and resilience to meet growing demand. Substations are essential infrastructure—transforming high-voltage electricity into safe, usable power for homes and businesses. This restoration not only resolved the immediate issue but also strengthened our grid for the future. Learn more in the Source: http://spr.ly/6048fSwKA
